iTunes to iPod - picking which podcast episodes to sync?

I own an iPod Nano, and it used to be that synching individual podcast episodes worked much like synching music - if the podcast/song had the little box checked, it would get synched to the iPod when I hit the Sync button. If not, then it wouldn’t be synched/would be removed from the iPod, as applicable. I’ve switched laptops around and updated iTunes since then, and it now doesn’t behave like that. I can’t for the life of me figure out what settings I need to pick to make it work that way again.

I don’t want the “X most recent/unplayed” option, I want to be able to pick and choose episodes as they suit me. Checking iTunes’ Help feature didn’t show anything that seemed to be useful, and Googling turned up unanswered questions on the Apple forums or things that weren’t what I’m looking for.

Which OS?

This is for an iPhone, but I suspect the nano is similar (I know there are subtle difference in the various iPods’ interfaces in iTunes) On the Mac, you need to select the device from the list on the left, and on the “Summary” tab, check “Sync only checked songs and videos.” That turns on honoring of the check marks.

Then go into the “Podcasts” tab and choose “synch all”, or whatever subset you want. You can check/unchech whole podcasts (in the Podcasts tab), or individual episodes in the Podcasts library.

Sorry - Windows Vista Home.

Thanks, it works now! I had the “manually sync songs and videos” option checked, and it would still erase podcasts. Turns out that then picking “Sync all” under Podcasts was the way to go - with other settings it wouldn’t work the way I’d wanted.
