iTunes won't import cyrillic titles...

or at least it won’t now. I previously added some Ukranian music to the library for my wife and that music is shown in the library with cyrillic titles. Today, I ripped a couple discs of Ukranian music to the hard drive, but when I try to import the music to the iTunes library, it shows the titles in some kind of garbage characters that are neither cyrillic nor latin letters. It does import the music, the problem is with the titles. The music files are in mp3 format, if that means anything. I already tried switching iTunes to Russian language, but no joy. Anybody got any ideas?

What version are you using? I’ve seen some variation in how iTunes supports Cyrillic titles; half of mine came out in Cyrillic, bt the other half came out in badly transliterated Latin letters.

I am using the most recent version. Windows shows the music titles in Cyrillic in the folder to which I ripped them. The problem is definitely with iTunes.

Sorry, I’m not sure what to tell you, then - I’m using one at least several versions old. And yes, I’ve seen inconsistencies, but never had that particular issue. (But I only have a handful of Russian-language CDs, anyway.)

Might it be a reflection of whatever character set iTunes picks up when ripping the CDs? I wonder whether some titles are in Unicode and some aren’t. I know that it has had no problem picking up Esperanto and French titles.
