The invitation was addressed to “Chique and Guest”, so that means I can drag someone along to my cousin’s wedding on 18 August.
You must know how to polka, waltz, and schottische (or be open to instruction :D) and be willing to console me after I’ve had too many beers and get all weepy over not having a date in for-freakin’-ever
Transport between airport/train station/bus station, room, board (and I’m a GOOD cook!), and liquor of choice will be provided
All you have to do is get to Minnesota
Anyone in, or am I going to have to cry over the lack of enthusiasm in my invite?
Adam Yax: 1) St. Cloud; 2) Um. Probably not. But if you’re heading this way in September let us MN Dopers know
pezpunk: Hi, ya nut
LNO: Would LOVE to be a fly on the wall when you explain this to your S.O.: “Yeah, hon, I’m going to a wedding Up North with this chick I know from a message board. She’s going to ply me with liquor, cry on my shoulder, and teach me how to dance!!”
Pretty much that, or just “Seeya, back later.” Probably safest to go with more information than less, given that someday I’ll probably mention “Oh, yeah, that time I went to the wedding with chique … oh, you know, someone from the SDMB board … yeah, she’s female … no, I’m SURE I told you about this before” and that’s just a disaster waiting to happen.
Ummm…Are you male or female?? I’ve only been on the board a month or two, hence the question. This would be REALLY embarrasing were it in person, but since it’s a message board you can probably understand.
I’m your hotdish. I grew up in MN, around Virginia where they have the annual Polka festival. So roll out the barrel and I will console you after you’ve had too many, but if I’ve had a few too many also (highly probable at a wedding) I may go for the gratuitous butt grab. At least I won’t make fun of the local’s accents though:)
Well Rach honey, I’d be HAPPY to go with you, and I would even volunteer to be the designated driver. I am really good at consoling. And I think we could rustle up a coupla’ cute groomsmen to dance with. [sub]WELL…maybe we could rustle up a coupla’ the groomsmen’s FATHERS to dance with? ::sigh::[/sub]
Only problem is, I’m just a teensy, weensey bit farther away than would make this pratical. Sorry…but I’m going to get out there someday if it’s the last thing I do!
Hmmm, can’t dance, can’t sing, can swing a sword a little…er, I mean I’d take you up on the offer, but have to fly out to Ohio near that time (either beginning or end of August, parents haven’t set things up yet) for family reunion, and probably can’t handle plane costs for both.
andygirl: takes you by the hand and waltzes you around the dance floor If only you could make it out here, hon
Mauv: Of COURSE it does!!! [sub]But don’t let andygirl know; I don’t want to make her jealous[/sub]
As long as you lead, though - I can’t dance in the guy’s position.
LNO: Well, if it’s going to be that easy come on up
tlmtlm59: Ya know, I changed my user name for the sole purpose of avoiding that problem …
Maybe this thread will help you out.
Turbo Dog: taps foot impatiently Well? Have you made plane reservations yet? It’s about time you came back to visit family, isn’t it?
Scotti, mon cher: Yes, you ARE going to have to make it out here some day … I’ll see if I can’t rustle up someone for us to dance with when you arrive
Narile: Aw, that’s all right, honey … feeds you mints Family comes first, of course … which is the only reason I’m going to a wedding, anyhow
Fiver: 1) Central part of the state, about an hour NW of Minneapolis
2) smacks you around with a large trout
3) smacks you around with a large two-by-four
It’s probably going to be 95 degrees by 18 August :\ Good thing my sister is practically forcing me to buy a dress …

[sub]UPON PREVIEW I NOTICE I’VE USED WAAAAAAAAY TOO MANY SMILIES. DEAL.
I can neither polka nor waltz, and I wouldn’t know what a ‘schottische’ was if it hit me over the head, but I’m willing to learn. So can I be your date? Huh, huh, can I, can I?
I have to bribe you to be your date? Hmph. Very well. The salmon jerky is sitting on my counter, waiting to be sent. I’ll try and get it out tomorrow. Hope you don’t mind it not being sent from Canada.
Dancing? Anything, anytime, always with enthusiasm.
Consoling? No need if I’m there (duh!) but I could do it necessary.
Adventure? Well with me there it’s GUARANTEED that something extremely strange (but invariably interesting) will happen. This may not be good but will make a good story in years to come.
But someone will have to pay for my airfare there. Any takers?
