Among all the stuff I’ve been sending out and applying for, I sent my resume and a letter to the command in Dahlgren where I worked from '97-'00. They didn’t have any vacancies advertised, but I figured it couldn’t hurt.
Well, today I got a call. I’m being hired back in a Mechanical Engineering billet, and I get my GS-13 back. Downside is the 40-mile one-way commute, but it’s mostly country roads. And the job is really cool. Unfortunately, it’s one that I can’t talk about, but trust me when I tell you it’s cool.
So, the house sold and I got a job. Methinks this would be a good week to get a lotto ticket, yes??
Thanks, ivylass. We’ll actually be a bit south of Baltimore - in Solomons, MD living on the boat till we build our house in California, MD. I’ll miss your brownies. Heck, I’ll miss you, too. But even after almost 2 years apart, I still want to live with my husband. Go figure!!
I started out as a GS-7 with an annual pay of just over $23K in '85. In 1999, I made 13, but had to take a demotion to 12 when I came back to Jax. So I’m getting my grade back. That’ll give me a good “high 3” for computing retirement pay. Yay!
Oh, and I was kidding about the “measly $7M” comment. I have coworkers who won’t risk a buck on a lotto ticket if the jackpot is less than $20M. Cracks me up!
Wow! What a streak of good fortune you’re having! Congratulations!
Hell, I’m still looking for a GS-11, but as I’m sure you know, the higher up the food chain you go, it really IS who you know and not what your resume says.
Sorry for the hijack. Hey, I WOULD buy a lotto ticket. I’d be happy with a million! I couldn’t quit working, but it would definitely raise our standard of living.
She is, too. She’s coming back here to the Land of Pleasant Living. Charm City.
Natty Boh and steamed crabs. Lovely endless summer days of 95° heat and 98% humidty. Marty Bass and his forecasts of “Hazy, hot and humid.”
Snowball stands on every corner. Where “Blood orange” and “Sky-lite” means something delicious and refreshing. You want marshmallow on that?
Where they close schools on account of rain, like they did on Tuesday and today. Okay, today it was icy and there was the danger of flooding, but c’mon. It’s just freaking rain.
Where predictions of snow send people scurrying to the stores for stockpiles of milk, bread and toilet paper.
Wow, a cosmic balance has been restored…or something. JC’s fleeing the coop, but we’re gaining a FCM!
Many, many congrats on your recent stroke of luck (really, a much truer example of the universe balancing itself out; I, too, recently had a much smaller amount of the same kind of luck), and I look forward to having the opportunity of meeting you!
Has it been two years already?! I remember way back when, when you were talking about making this decision with your hubby, FCM. {cue old geezer music}
(My husband is one of the “only buy tickets for big jackpots” people. I figure it really doesn’t matter - we won’t win if we don’t buy, and we won’t win if we do buy. Whatever makes him happy.)
Guess this means I need to start working on my interior decorator’s wardrobe. It takes time to assemble a faaaaaaaaabulous wardrobe and I gotta be ready to go up to Baltimore and decorate the new house.
Now, where did I put those wallpaper swatches?
