One, or at least I, can easily ignore the tabloids by double-checking that I have bought everything I have coupons for, and by filling out my check with everything but the amount. Or, if those, fail, browsing the Snickers rack for the freshest candy bar.
That said, at what point does the OP draw the line? It is a valid news story here in Denver, and Boulder, and probably most of Colorado. I’ll follow it simply because it’s local.
Even if I wasn’t local, I’d likely follow it to some extent. Ramsey’s murder was a perfect “locked room” murder. Where is Agatha Christie when you need her?
I think the last straw for me came with MSNBC’s BREAKING NEWS that interrupted a fake news program (Tucker Carlson) to show live shots of the plane bearing the accused murderer of JonBenet touching down in Boulder. And then, of course, then had to replay it several times while they told what they predicted would follow — being photographed, fingerprinted (doh!)
I can’t imagine being the parent of a kid who is missing or dead, but who wasn’t white/beautiful/female enough to get this kind of attention. I would be screaming at the TV, a lot less coherently than the OP.
Sorry, can’t join in the applause here. I find the OP to be in poor taste just as much as the insanely exploitative media coverage that provoked it. However, credit where it’s due, the phrase ‘necromantic batteries’ in this context is alone worth my sub for the year. Brilliant.
Yeah, what a little bitch, eh? How dare she die in a horrible and disturbing way thus setting off a media firestorm that annoyed the almighty Terrifel.
How dare the little skank? :dubious:
If a given TV program dedicated to the case got a 0.0 rating, or a magazine which featured it sold zero copies or an internet story got no hits, it would cease to be reported. Period. Don’t blame the media (who are scummy, no doubt), blame every Sally Housecoat and Joe Sixpack who watches, buys, or reads items dedicated to events like this. Blame the people who will buy up every copy of People Magazine because it has a picture of Tom Cruise Jr.'s right elbow from 500 yards away, not the papparazzo (ok blame him a little) who hid in a sewer for four hours to get the picture. Do you think whatever magazine paid 4mil or whatever for Brad Pitt Jr photos is gonna lose money on the deal? Hardly. The media is only giving the average pathetic American what they want. They are not in the business to lose money. If the postal worker strike in Gdansk suddenly piqued the interest of Joe Meatball and his clock punching ilk, that’s what they’d report. Blame society
Actually I prefer the term “bitch-larva.” She was only six years old, after all.
Yes. Yes, I am, every single day. And yet you’ve never had to look at endless pictures of my slack-jawed mug as part of the monthly crossover media blitz about how I continue to be a total prick. I think it’s a safe guess that, even if I were no more egregious a prick than I am now, you would find me *infinitely more annoying * if everybody else in the universe kept telling you how I’m the most fascinating topic since Snakes on a Plane.
