Just placed my order today for the Tabletop Trebuchet from Trebuchet.com, soon i’ll be flinging steel-cored mouse balls at inanimate objects, and paintballs at people who annoy me …
i’ve been wanting a T.T. ever since i saw the kit, so i decided to spring for it and treat myself, i really wanted the Warwolf lit, but i couldn’t rationalize spending $180 for a toy, admittedly a really cool one…
so, what’s the secret handshake, and what bennies do i get?
I’ve had good results with my tabletop mangonel, although I lust after the six-foot warworlf (mangonel.com).
Try explaining (as I had to) to the nice customs officers what exactly a catapult is and bringing it back into the country. As far as the bennies, you get to say “I have a catapult” and you’ll be fielding a lot of smartarse questions like “So does your castle come under siege a lot?”
Seriously, these things are way cool, and with the larger ones you can use them to launch watermelons and bags of flour for catapult skeet shooting. That’s entertainment.
Heh, i haven’t even recieved the TT yet, and i’m already thinking of ways of hacking it to make it more effective…
first off, replacing the standard “hook and latch” release with a magnetic release system, i have a small pile of powerful Neomydium magnets i yoinked from hard drives and scrap TiBook cases, , and magnetic latches won’t wear out like the brass peg it comes stock with
i’m also trying to figure out some way of using magnets to increase the performance and firepower of the treb, perhaps putting a couple of small magnets on the support legs of the frame and on the counterweight will cause the throwing arm to accelerate, as the weights approach the magnet(s), increasing distance with a negligible increase in weight…
