It’s not supposed to be an All-First-Half Game, as it’s become. It’s not supposed to be a Home Advantage in the World Series, as it’s become. It’s not supposed to be a Put-Everyone-in-the-Game-by-the-8th-inning, as it’s become.
It’s a game, an All-Star Game, and making sure that some 3rd rate pitcher faces a 4th rate batter in the fifth–because they have to get in the game–is bullshit.
I’m not interested anymore. I’m a baseball fan; I love baseball on my TV. Not tonight, thank you so much.
It’s meaningless drivel, and I refuse to watch it. There is always something else on. Or maybe I could finish reading the book I started over the weekend.
The All-Joke game needs to be moved to after the World Series.
It’s the best players in MLB playing baseball. Yeesh.
The pitching has been dominating, not surprisingly. What’s not to like seeing Ubaldo Jimenez, David Price, Andy Pettitte, Josh Johnson and Cliff Lee do their thing?
First of all, moving it to after the World Series is a terrible, awful idea. It would accomplish nothing, cost MLB money, and make the game vastly worse, as far more players would refuse to show up.
Secondly, having it determine who wins the World Series isn’t any more or less arbitrary than “Whether it’s an even or odd year.”
Third, it’s BASEBALL. Baseball! Give me more baseball.
I’ll trade ya my baseball for your football, if we can work out some kinda ratio deal. I figure one football game is worth…say…<squints>…4 baseball games…
Which accomplishes my goal. It would collapse under terminal ennui, and we would all be spared the experience. You want more baseball? Dump the stupid thing and play games these three down days instead.
Well, I’m really not picky. I actually like the NFL even better than college ball, especially my Saints. I sometimes watch the Friday night high school game on ESPNU, and have been known to listen to something like Whoarethey Community College vs Neverheardofit Tech on AM radio while driving, if that was all I could get.
Making it for home advantage actually gives them something to play for. Home field is huge for many teams. Many of these guys are in pennant races. Winning could be important for the World Series. It was a brilliant move for the leagues to decide on that change. Now if we can just get the NL to adopt the DH ,we will be getting somewhere.
I’m tired of the All Star Game too. Unfortunately, I will watch any sports-related event, no matter how sick of the crap I am. I spent all evening yesterday watching the freakin’ home run derby. How many times can an announcer scream “It’s gone!” in one evening? By the end, I was just watching to see if a pop fly hits one of those 12-year olds in the outfield in the head, a la Jose Canseco. I don’t want to see a kid get hurt, but at least we wouldn’t have to see a bunch of bratty kids run around like maniacs every year.
I hope someone from the Royals or Astros decides this game, so the MLB realizes how stupid it is to base the World Series home field advantage on this crap.
It’s not a “real” baseball game. It doesn’t really matter. The WS home field advantage is silly and arbitrary but, as RickJay said, no more so than other methods they could use.
But, it’s fun to watch the (arguably, some of the) best players in baseball all in one place, playing with players they don’t normally get to play with.
And I got a kick out of hearing the Yankees get booed by the crowd when the players are introduced.
