I've Quit Smoking!

Cheering you on, Freak!

Great job man! I just hit 13 months myself. The best advice I received was: if you feel like smoking, wait three minutes. I was amazed on how quickly the urge passed.

Keep it up

Hey Freak,

Congrats on making 24 hours. (Assuming you actually DID make 24 hours.)

Might I suggest a career at the post office? It’s the perfect job for someone with an “urge to kill”.
: heads for the exit :

When I first started smoking, I was smoking Marlboros. Bout a pack a day. Then switched to Marlboro lights a couple years ago, then Ultra lights a year or so ago, then Ultra Light 100’s bout 6 months ago. (Not sure if 100’s are lighter or not). Always stayed at a pack a day. Finally quit (again) 3 weeks ago. I think mine is more mental than physical though, because twice now I have quit without having nic fits, cravings, or even missing it. Whole mind over body thing, told myself I didn’t want anymore, and I haven’t. That was the hardest part. Because every other time I tried to quit, I didn’t really want to quit. So it never worked. But thats just me.

Guess I should post this.

Three weeks, two days, 7 hours, 17 minutes and 31 seconds. 466 cigarettes not smoked, saving $81.56.
Life saved: 1 day, 14 hours, 50 minutes.

I’m worried about Freak, he posted over 24 hours ago and hasn’t been back…

I hope he isn’t on the fourth floor of some building with a high powered rifle or anything…

Freak, you can do it. Don’t listen to the addiction talking, it’s gonna try to tell you that you can just have one, or that you can quit later, or do it gradually, or that it really isn’t that bad. Don’t give in. I’ve had to watch relatives go through cancer due to smoking, and help friends quit. Keep your head on straight, and know that we’re all here for you, even all of us newbies.

I know that I can’t possibly give as good advice as Wally and the others did on the Great SD Smoke-Out, so here’s the link. Hope it helps, man, we’re all pulling for you, so you don’t have to walk the road alone.

I smoked for 10 years and wanted to quit for a million reasons but couldn’t. It was the recurring pneumonia that finally did the trick. That was almost 2 years ago. How you doing Freak? Check in with us!

One day, 5 hours, 42 minutes and 25 seconds. 24 cigarettes not smoked, saving $3.71. Life saved: 2 hours, 0 minutes.

::froths at the mouth::

Where’s my gun?

:: reminds self to NOT buy stamps this afternoon ::

Two days, 2 hours, 21 minutes and 1 second. 41 cigarettes not smoked, saving $6.29. Life saved: 3 hours, 25 minutes.

Please… help… me…

I swear to God, I’m right on the verge of cracking. I don’t have any patches, nic gum, or Zyban. I’m doing this cold turkey. I can’t stop gritting my teeth.

good luck Feak.

If you don’t have any of that stuff, try having a polo mint each time you want to smoke - that’s what my mother did (or chewing gum, like my friend did - she has cheek muscles like king kong’s abs, but she hasn’t smoked since last November).

Oh & the gum will help with the teeth gritting… good luck.

You can do it, Freak. The first week is the worst, and then it gets better from there. And you’re more than two days through it.

If you’re gritting your teeth, get something to put in your mouth. Chew gum constantly, or get a box of toothpicks and chomp on them. Become a pen chewer, so you can get the hand habit and the mouth habit at once. Masturbate frequently.

And remember, when this is over, you will be the only thing in control of your own life. Before this, you were letting a dried up weed in a paper stick control your life, and padding some executive’s pockets for the privelege. Now it’s just you and nothing else.

Remember, those 3 hours and 25 minutes is extra time you can spend with your woman. The $6.29 should go toward a plane ticket.

Ha! Yeah right! I have a girlfriend, remember?

And so far as the other stuff goes, I’ve tried gum. I guess it works, but I just can’t get it to light…

Freak

You’re a pisser. I’m almost 3 years clean after a 30 year habit. If you can (as you have) deprive yourself of that first cig. You’ve got it beat.

Hang in there.

Hey Freak! Congratulations for getting this far!

I’m rooting for ya too! If you need a sponsor, just tell me. If you don’t know what a sponsor does, check out the aforementioned thread.

Three days, 1 hour, 27 minutes and 56 seconds. 61 cigarettes not smoked, saving $9.18. Life saved: 5 hours, 5 minutes.

Nothing tastes better yet. In fact, I’m not noticing any difference at all. Except that I’m craving a cigarette all the freakin’ time!

You can do it Freak! We’re all pulling for you!

Four days, 41 minutes and 8 seconds. 80 cigarettes not smoked, saving $12.09. Life saved: 6 hours, 40 minutes.

I’ve just been informed that I’m being fired, and I’m also suffering from an ingrown toenail. Could I have picked a worse week to quit smoking?

Possibly, but I’m not sure when the apocolypse is happening.

Freak, you started doing this for YOU. Life can fall to pieces and having a smoking will not change it one bit. Keep on keeping on! It’s a bitch even after one year, just put it off for another 3 minutes, and another 3 minutes, etc…

It WILL get easier, promise!
