Do you ever discover that, without ever having made it a point to do so, you’ve seen nearly every one of a certain Hollywood star’s movies? And that, sometimes to your dismay, you actually like most of them?
My star? Tom Cruise.
Looking at his IMDB biography, I have seen most, if not all, of his movies and loved them. Whether it’s Top Gun, Tropic Thunder, Cocktail, The Firm, or The Last Samurai, I’ve enjoyed them and I’ve enjoyed Crazy Tom Cruise in them.
They can even make stinkers watchable. I’d add Sean Connery, but he will do such utter schlock for a paycheck that sometimes even he can save it. For example, the move that was between Highlander and Highlander III that doesn’t exist. Zardoz. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves. Stinkers all, even with Connery.
I remember one day, looking at my DVD collection, when this thought hit me: “Holy crap, I have a lot of movies with Jonathan Pryce in them!” It wasn’t at all on purpose, he just pops up a lot.
I second John C. Reilly. He’s got an incredible filmography: Boogie Nights, Chicago, Magnolia, Gangs of New York, The Good Girl. He’s one of the few actors who’s very presence makes me want to give a movie that I might not otherwise be interested in seeing, like Walk Hard and Talladega Nights, a chance.
Woody Harrelson - I generally find him repugnant as a human being, but he works a LOT and is in a surprising number of quality films that I am appreciative of.
The situation kinda reminds me of when one of your good friends is married to an a*hole. They always show up at parties you are at, you don’t want to have to deal with them, but there they are!
I was suprised at this a few months ago when I realized it. I didn’t purposefully set out to view all of his films, but I’ll be damned if I haven’t seen almost all of them, and I liked them! I guess that makes me a Woody fan.
