Some of you may remember from previous threads about my wedding planning that I sometimes hang out on a wedding planning board . A great many of the residents of Brideland are honest-to-goodness Brides (yes, they often capitalize that word) and are thus easily upset. Brideland is a happy place for Brides to come together and support one another against the predations of evil bridesmaids, vendors and mothers-in-law. Dissention, apparently, is not tolerated in Brideland.
Witness a thread I ran across yesterday where someone was complaining about a common but annoying practice on that board. Someone else decided the thread was a personal attack on her, and complained to a moderator. The thread was closed because it was “not positive.” Okay, complaining on the board itself isn’t kosher. The easiest way to avoid that is to give people somewhere else to gripe. So I start a thread with a link to the Pit, telling people that if they need to bitch about each other, this is a safe place to do so.
My thread was deleted. Not closed, deleted. I received a personal message from the moderator who did so saying that it was closed because it violates the non-solicitation clause in my membership agreement. That’s odd, I see people posting threads soliciting business for dress companies all the time, ditto other suppliers. I was also told that it was not my business to keep negative posts off the board.
Apparently, it’s far more happy and supportive to squash any negative thoughts and pretend they never existed than to give them an appropriate outlet.
Okay, all you Garfield fans, join me in a chorus of the Bridey Bear song:
Oh, we are the Bridey Bears, we always get along,
Each day we do a little dance and sing a little song.
If you ever disagree, it means that you are wrong.
We are the Bridey Bears, we always get along.
