On consultation with the other mods, we don’t think that having the story here will be an impediment to getting your book published: You certainly have the legal right to publish it after posting it here, and some posters (including some mods) have done so with other material they’ve written. But just in case, I’ve removed it from your OP. If you want to re-post it in a space that you control, I can edit in a link if you’d like.

Can you imagine what a disappointment it was to have to go back to
“See Dick?”
“See Jane?”
“Dick and Jane run up the hill.”
Kids, at least some of them, need a challenge. Keep the big words.
