I know Lacoste has the aligator as its logo, but didn’t Izod also once bear the aligator?
It is all the same dern ** company**. When the shirts first came out having the alligator was something new and it became popular. Then they called them Izod and then Lacoste (or visa versa). That is probably what they mean by the evolution of their species.
FWIW department:
To be precise the Lacoste logo is supposed to be a crocodile. It was so chosen because it was Rene Lacoste’s nickname when he was playing professional tennis in the first third of the 20th century. However, only a handful of most employees of the firm (stateside at least) realize that.
Yep it’s a croc. You get some companies trying to copy them and using an aligator.
In summer 1980, I was in a summer camp working. Some fellow counsellors went to the Lacoste Factory Outlet.
They had picked up the actualy patch, which at that time was a separate applique’. Being the fiesty teens that we were, they sewed one alligator mounted onto another one.
Go figure.
I never wore them, they’re too tight for a fellah with a tire around his belly…
