I know, and I’m quite disappointed by that.
I really liked Captain America, love Rocketeer, and Jurassic Park 3 is my favourite one. I don’t think you need someone who is creatively exciting for directing Star Wars, you want someone who is stylistically consistent, understands adventure storytelling, and can handle epic visual effects.
I liked the Abrams Star Trek, so I am happy to see him get the Star Wars sequel.
As for Captain America, I thought it was far better than servicable: it was a very good movie.
What did he do for Captain America? I thought that was rather dull.
…ha! Saxon and the ICS were responsible for almost killing the “vs” debates across the internet and upset lots of people! I rememberI mentioned it jokingly in one of my first posts here: and someone actually took me seriously and challenged me to defend myself!
Abrams didn’t do anything, it was Joe Johnston. And I didn’t find it dull at all. I loved the movie.
Sorry for confusing everyone with Joe Johnston talk
Is this confirmed anywhere else? Looks like a rumor to me.
Ha!
NOW you’ve done it!
Wesleybinx!
Agreed. He totally fucked up Star Trek. I hope SW 7/8/9 stick to SW canon.
Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As ‘Fun, Watchable’

SW 7/8/9?
I read something about plans to do that back in 1981, I think, but ever since ROtJ hasn’t Lucas been disavowing that and saying he had no plans to move beyond SW 1/2/3?
Of course all this storyline talk is silly, since he’s not writing Star Wars, (and he didn’t write Star Trek either).
Excellent choice. I really liked his Star Trek film, in fact more than any of the Star Wars films.
I think Abrams is one of a number of directors who could take Star Wars forward: Whedon, Jackson, Singer etc. Younger directors like Blomkamp (District 9) and Johnson (Looper) would be interesting choices also. There is a whole generation of really talented directors who grew up in the post-Star Wars era of science-fiction and fantasy who could do Star Wars a lot better than Lucas or even Kershner.
You must have been lost on top of a mountain in Mongolia for the last few months. Disney bought Lucasfilm and has vowed to make not just another trilogy of Star Wars films, but also, in between those main releases, additional movies outside of the main storyline (things like a Boba Fett movie, or a Droids movie, such is speculation anyway).
I loved the new Star Trek movie. It made me give a shit about Star Trek again. Sometime around the advent of Deep Space 9 I realized I was watching out of a sense of continuity, because I was supposed to like it. Then when I got a chance to catch up on Babylon 5, I really came to believe Star Trek had been a waste of my time. And eventually, you get Firefly, to which I now compare everything including cable news. But after the recent movie, I could suddenly see myself wanting to throw Star Trek kitsch on top of my already teetering piles of nerdy crap.
