Jack Chick has died.

Let’s see.

Comic-maker, King James only guy, Catholic(at least Pope) hater guy, Dungeons and Dragons hater guy, guy who hardly ever took photos of himself for some reason.

My Mom and Dad, who meant very well, made me quit playing Might and Magic 1 because of DND, which was very similar. I doubt they ever heard of Jack Chick, but his comic about it was very influential in the early 80’s.

He’s dead at age 92.

Maybe WBC can picket his funeral?

I just saw that I am genuinely saddened by the news. His Chick Tracks represented some type of campy genius even if they are wrong about everything. I loved reading them as much as I used to love reading the Weekly World News. Now both of them are gone.

I knew some people who passed them out. When I was a kid, we even acted one out at school(Christian school). I wish I remembered which one. It wasn’t the DND one or a really famous one.

He had a following in the 80’s, but faded fast. Even many fundamentalists found him too extreme.

My understanding is despite his tremendous and significant flaws, he was a friendly and nice guy. Not a hate-addicted-seething-maniac like Fred Phelps or Fred Phelps’ daughter.

HAW!

I got to see Dark Dungeons, the movie made from the Chick Tract of the same name-it was wonderfully craptacular and totally faithful in spirit to the original.

In person, maybe, but on paper, he was pretty awful.

Oh, well: with any justice, God is quietly explaining all his errors to him, and rebuking him (gently) for engaging in the very sins he sought to combat.

It’s on YouTube.

Yes, he struck me as someone who did not have a lot of exposure to people outside his little group. Clueless.

I read he got his start doing archie comics and it was when they started Sabrina he quit (but copied the style )

I’m legitimately surprised Jack Chick was a real person, instead of being a pseudonym or even some performance art project. Were there any indepth profiles or interviews of Chick?

Beat me to it!

He’s answering to the lightbulb-headed judge in the sky now.

My favourite Chick tract parodies are Dan Clowes’s “Devil Doll” and Adam Thrasher’s “Antlers of the Damned” (warning: contains disturbing imagery of Marmaduke assauling a cartoon moose).

Who Will Be Eaten First?

Minor nitpick: It’s actually:

HAW HAW!

… and let’s not forget the somewhat less common:

YAHHH!

Fang will wait for him.

I played the RPG based on it. (Basically 2nd edition D&D with a few tweaks and all the examples drawn from the comic.) After my character was killed the DM pointed out that by the rules of the comic I should go home and commit suicide.

Dang… disappointment time for sure, don’t ya think?

IF he is – IF – I pray that he is now made to behold righteous Catholics, Muslims, Mormons, Jews, Wiccans, etc. and even the right-hearted nonbelievers, embraced by the Lord’s Infinite Mercy and dwelling in His eternal glory.

And then let the Big Man make a nice long pregnant pause while it all sinks in as the Archangel takes his sweet time leafing leisurely through the Book… I think in his comics the shades of the dead sweat, do they…?

I haven’t seen a Jack Chick pamphlet in years. I make do with “Chucky Talks to God” (on Roku and YouTube).
