i found this on a message board for teenagers. There are a variety of subjects, this one was on prayer in school. I think I’ve found the next Jack Chick:
It’s all there! sensationalism, illogical claims, facts based on opinions…everything good ol’ Jack could want.
What’s sadder: i could list a dozen people at my own school who share this view. Our hope for the future? move to mars. What makes this a Pit thread? here goes…a massive fuck you too all the kids i know that are hypocritical fundies-in-training. The thought that you might one day grow up and be in charge of ANYTHING that involves me scares the fucking shit out of me. THe thought that you might grow up and REPRODUCE scares me even more. Do you take PRIDE in how little evidence you need to believe something? ‘Faith faith faith’…‘fuck you fuck you fuck you’
Considering that the following was part of his message, I’m inclined to cut the kid a little slack.
The shock and grief that go along with those circumstances are probably more than enough to short circuit the logic center of teenage mind. At a later time, if he’s still clinging to - what I consider to be - erroneous assumptions, then I’d say a dopeslap to the head would be in order. This is a little too soon.
i’d agree, but i’ve seen the same ‘letter’ in a glurge email. I doubt this person is the originator. then again, could be. On the same board, i’ve seen people claim to be cousins of the Columbine shooters, sister of one of a shooter at another school (i checked into it…he was an only child), etc. etc.
not to mention the poster’s email adress indicated he or she was a 7th grader…how old was the girl in Michigan? Again, it seems pretty unlikely that a 7th grader and a highschooler would be ‘best friends’
Nutcase fundies* have put themselves in an interesting position… every time something bad happens to “ungodly” people, it’s because they didn’t have enough God. Everytime something bad happens to “decent God-fearing folk”, it’s 'cuz “God works in mysterious ways.” And they just ignore the times that good things happen to ungodly people…
(*Note: I am in no way saying that fundamentalists are nutcases. I shouldn’t have to add this disclaimer, but history has taught me that somebody’s gonna get their panties in a wad over this)
So many religions, especially the modern ones, are a one-sided piece of paper that says “this is a one-sided piece of paper.” Believers hold up the paper and say, “believe in the words of the one-sided piece of paper!”
You say, “that’s not a one-sided piece of paper.”
That’s when the believer turns the piece of paper over, and the other side says the exact same thing. Proof!
