I recently heard famed suicide doctor Jack Kevorkian is dying of hepatitis in prison. Then I heard from another local news source that he acquired the disease while in prison. No further information was given. Does anyone know how he acquired the disease? He didn’t get from a prison rape or anything like that did he :eek: ? Any link anyone has to offer will be helpful.

He actually got it during some research he performed on himself during the Vietnam era. He was testing to see if we could use the blood of the deceased in transfusions for soldiers.
And it’s HCV (Hepatitis C), which has a very,very low rate of sexual transmission, FWIW. Just Google “kevorkian hepatitis” for “about 11,900” cites.
I don’t think we have any good numbers on the rate of Hep C sexual transmission.
I don’t disagree with you. However, the CDC says:
I’d rather see numbers, sure. It’s also the case that HIV and HCV each may increase vulnerability to the other. However, I still contend that HCV is generally not considered an STI (except perhaps in cases where HIV is a vector).
