So here’s my story. Which is unrelated to this thread. Hmm, well maybe not as much as I thought.
I’m sitting with some Christians. I tell them that one of the reasons I have a problem with Christianity is that some Christians that I know are committing what I consider to be fraud and using God as their excuse. I see that as hypocrisy.
Their answer? Well, you’re being hypocritical too because you’re judging their fraud and people shouldn’t judge. (Actually, they did the whole beam/mote thing but that just added to the irritation.)
But here’s the thing. I’m judging to evaluate the basis for my beliefs, so my judging is not condemnation of the people but judging how the action affects my relationship to those I think are committing the fraud and my beliefs about the religion.
It was a sad observation that I made long ago that the people who can be the most vicious are those of my own gender. Both genders do very well at ‘mean’, but the art of using a very thin, sharp knife to eviscerate someone tends to be mastered by people of the female persuasion.
Yet again, I never said it was bad to insult people in the Pit. But I’m speaking to the challenged, because you don’t understand the concept of degree. At. All.

I wouldn’t know about that. It seems to me that for a cite to legitimately be a cite, it should, you know, prove something. I’m rarely asked for cites that are really anything more than examples rather than proof. I made a post on this subject once asking for clarification and got no response, so unless I’m instructed by a mod that I have to post some kind of cite whenever one is demanded, I fully intend to ignore demands for non-probative cites. I doubt that this will happen since to post some sort of cite just to be doing so would be counter-productive and not really in keeping with the way things are done around here, and furthermore I believe that if ‘cites’ are not officially expected to be probative, they be referred to more accurately by calling them ‘examples’.
