My wife had to turn away from the leech on the eyeball. There were many parts I wanted to turn away from but I forced myself to watch and I’m glad I did.
Steve-O said on the radio last week that there was so much extra footage they could just about put out Jackass 3 tomorrow, so this should be a good DVD if it all makes it on there.
I haven’t seen #2 yet, but #1 made me laugh so hard if I hadn’t peed before the movie, I for sure would have peed my pants. If laughing at guys shooting bottle rockets out of their asses is wrong, then I don’t wanna be right.
By the way, I’m a college educated, tax paying, intelligent woman with lots of fun hobbies and interests. I just also happen to think Jackass is damned funny. Wny don’t you try watching something before writing it off. If you lived near me, I’d offer you $100 cash if you could get through 1/2 of that movie without laughing. I honestly don’t think anyone could.
It’s been my experience on many, many occasions that the ones who are the most vocal in their derision of Jackass are the ones who laugh the hardest when you sit them down in front of it.
I read newspapers and literature. I think I have a sophisticated palate. Music is what I live for.
And Jackass is hilarious.
Now the first is clearly better than the second. But the water cannon rodeo looked like great fun. And the punching machine was great. I loved the skit with Johnny and the kid at the burrito stand.
I think though that they relied more on piss, shit, vomit, and cum in this one than in the last. How and why these guys figured out how to vomit on cue is beyond me. I always try to look away… But somehow I can’t.
The one thing that I can never watch, though, and I own the first on DVD, is the papercut. It freaks me out.
So having spoken my piece, how about some Chardonnay? Pinot Noir?
That’s interesting – my reaction to them is just about the complete opposite of yours. If they want to inflict severe pain on themselves, strap themselves to projectiles, shove toy cars up their asses, or whatever, that’s completely fine with me. A lot of it is funny and/or fascinating. OTOH, the skits in which they piss off random strangers for yucks just make me mad.
For example, I remember one skit on the TV show that had them throwing realistic-looking (somewhat) dummies off of a highway overpass on to moving cars. A couple of the motorists drove up to them and were extremely angry, shouting and threatening them. It’s probably too bad that none of them actually did anything about it – the crew deserved to leave that shoot with some broken bones.
I’m pretty sure that never happened on the TV show. Are you sure you aren’t thinking of something else? I’ve never seen the Jackass crew ever endanger anyone outside of themselves.
I believe I can put this issue to bed. No, Jackass has never thrown dummies off of a highway overpass onto cars.
Here’s the confusion: CKY (Camp Kill Yourself) was Bam Margera’s first foray into this sort of stuff before he joined Jackass. (You can google “CKY video”) to get the wiki info. Apparently (and I have not seen it) the CKY guys did do a prank where they threw dummies onto cars.
I believe Doctor Who is correct, thought I haven’t seen any of the CKYs in a long time.
VarlosZ may be attributing the prank to the wrong series, but I still agree with the message behind his post. It is fine (and sometimes funny) to see them injuring themselves or wreaking havoc on their own property, but when innocent bystanders are involved that’s crossing the line in my opinion. What about the fake baby on top of the SUV during one of the episodes? They would put a baby carrier (with a doll) on top of an SUV and start driving around a parking lot forcing concerned individuals to literally chase the car in order to warn the driver of what was happening. To me that is sick and wrong, and that is why they would take off before anyone could actually catch them. If I found out that I had been chasing a car around a parking lot forever out of fear of a fake baby being injured, there would be a serious problem if I found out it was for a prank. That is preying on concerns and emotions of people, and it is a stunt endangering the general public. I don’t see how anyone could defend it.
I guess it depends on how the bystanders are used though. It is funny to see the reactions to some of the stunts they pull in front of people (i.e. kayaking around a fountain), but the difference is it really doesn’t affect other people’s lives. It’s also interesting to note the deer in headlights look that a lot of people get when they see what’s going on. For example, when Johnny Knoxville had Chris Pontius(?) locked in his trunk and tied up. Johnny would pull up to a gas station and Chris would bust out of the car after making a bunch of noise and run off down the street near nude, bound, and gagged. I kept waiting to see a mechanic put a pipe across Johnny’s jaw thinking he was an actual kidnapper.
If you want to hurt yourself, fine. If you want to hurt other people (emotionally and physically), not so fine. Just the opinion of someone who pulled plenty of pranks and stunts prior to ever watching Jackass.
Doctor Who, might that have aired on MTV? If so, then I’ll accept I was probably mistaken.
Anyway, it was just an example. Some of their pranks involving strangers are benign, but a lot of them are intended to frighten, anger, and/or annoy other people so we can laugh at them. That doesn’t bother the show’s fans?
Frighten, anger and annoy, I’ll give you, but there’s never any attempt to injur or physically endanger.
I thought the baby on the car was kind of mean-spirited too. It isn’t really funny to play on people’s good impulses. I admit not everything works but with this kind of ver experimental entertainment your going to get some duds or some stuff that sounded funny when they thought it up but just seems dumb in a bad way when executed. I’m sure these guys have a lot of stunts and gags in the can that just laid there like a turd. They try so many things, though, that a few of them are going to be gold. Really, I think that very few people could sit all the way through a Jackass movie without lauging at anything, no matter how much they may hate themselves for it.
I never liked the baby on the car gag, and I don’t really like the old-man-on-the-runaway-wheelchair gag - but I agree with what Diogenes says about them.
Remember that everyone whose face you see signed a release.
VarlosZ - You need to either provide a cite or admit that you’re wrong. I don’t think the doll on the car was even on CKY. I think you’re thinking of the movie The Good Son.
Ok, everybody - simmer down now. Here’s a Youtube video from CKY where Bam and another dude throw a dummy in front of a car. I’m pretty sure there’s another one where they pitch it off of an overpass, but I haven’t found that one.
But again - to the best of my knowledge - there has never been a Jackass scene where they threw dummies onto cars.
