This has to be the most anticipated Jailbreak in history. And it’s out now:
https://mobile.twitter.com/evad3rs
Supports ALL iOS devices (except Apple TV 3).
If anyone has any questions on Jailbreaking, I’ll be happy to answer.

I am tempted to jailbreak for the first time since iphone 3g, but when I go to your link no hyperlinks seem to be loading?
Looks like they’re still working on the GUI. The wait continues…
I will bookmark the link, if the jailbreak community is as advanced as before I look forward to customizing my iPhone again in new and unique ways! But I do have a lot of reading up to do, I was never into the apps portion (paid for free) I was more into customizing and removing things like the Youtube app etc that Apple didn’t allow me to remove before.
Meanwhile, here’s what you need to do to prep:
Steps 1-3 could take 30mins to a couple hours, depending on how much data you have on your device.
Steps 4-5 should take 5-10mins
Thanks xash I will do 1/2/3 tonight. And expect more questions once the GUI is ready!
The jailbreak has been released!
Download link is live now:
Yes! Thank you!
I finally decided to go for jailbreaking my iPad 3 so I could get my hands on BeeKeyboard. Of course I found lots of other interesting things, too, like Activator and so forth. But I didn’t go crazy, I like things that ease my use more than amuse my eyes.
ANYWAY… big issue: Siri seems to have lost the ability to launch apps. She keeps saying “you don’t seem to have an app named XXX”. I googled and found one Reddit page discussing it, but it wasn’t that helpful, not least because I am not 100% certain what the annoying-but-effective-fix being discussed is. Is it bailing on the jailbreak, or re-jailbreaking? Or is there something else I can do?
This is a big deal, because I have hundreds of apps and telling Siri to open them instead of hunting for where I put them has made my life much easier.
This appears to be an issue not related to Jailbreak; non-Jailbreak users upgrading to iOS 6 seem to be encountering this issue as well.
Here are two solutions that have worked for others:
Option A (~2 minutes)
Backup your iPad before you begin
/var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-045.csstore
/var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist
Tap Edit on the top right of iFile
Select the two files named above
Tap the delete icon at the bottom to delete the two files you selected
Reboot device
Wait for a few minutes for iOS to rebuild the app database. If your apps seem to have disappeared, don’t panic. They should show up.
Use Siri to launch apps

Option B (~15mins - 2 hrs, depending on size of backup)
Backup your iPad before you begin
Backup your iPad to iCloud (in addition to the backup in iTunes before you began)
Connect your iPad to iTunes
Restore the iPad to iOS 6.1.2 using iTunes. If iOS 6.1.3 is released by the time you see this, abort. Because you won’t be able to jailbreak iOS 6.1.3
Once the iPad boots up for the first time, disconnect the iPad from the computer
Follow on-screen instructions; make sure to sign in with your Apple ID and choose restore from iCloud
This will restore your iPad from the backup you made to iCloud in Step 1
After the restore is complete, use Siri to launch apps

Couple questions for you, xash:
I’d be curious to know about this. I know the 2nd gen has a jailbreak available for it. That’s why they tend to go for about $50 more than a brand new 3rd gen Apple TV on the secondary market. There were rumors of a 3rd gen jailbreak (which is the ATV I have), but I have not been able to find one myself. Any progress on it?
Also, if I can ever jailbreak an Apple TV, will I be able to get PlayOn or Plex to run on it?
Xash, you seem like The Man… thanks for the comprehensive reply, I will see if I can get things working.
Meanwhile, another question: while I love BeeKeyboard, I also love dictation. Sometimes you want one, sometimes the other. Can you think of an app or a configuration in Activator or something that would enable triggering the dictation mic key via the BT keyboard? I have googled that as well and also come up against no good news. (I can’t even get the screen keyboard to come up while my BT keyboard is connected, which is hugely frustrating, even though I’d much rather keep it hidden altogether and just trigger dictation without it, as in ML. I’ve tried the keys I’ve read about and none seem to work for me. And that was before the JB!)
I’m also trying to get the trackpad working via the BT Mouse addon… I’m surprised that others don’t find as I do that touching the screen directly can often be a pain in the ass, and I crave a separate stylus or touchpad. Especially in certain games, because my big fat fingers on the screen totally get in the way.
I’ve JB’d other phones but the only thing I ever did was unlock after that. This is the first time I’ve explored the tweaks and other options and some of them are so great I am stunned that Apple is being so stingy about implementing them: vertical scrolling of bigger pages, bigger scrolling dock, folders in folders and folders that hold more than 12… Hallelujah! (I am a big one for checking out free stuff. Leaves me with a LOT, and I mean A LOT of stuff lying around.)
On the OTHER hand… Things are glitchitudinous and its making me very frustrated. My keys are wonky as hell, inserting weird characters and jumping around, I can’t “respring” because it ALWAYS hangs, forcing a complete reboot, the Siri thing… to read others talking about it, Jailbreaking is a heavenly place where flowers bloom and birds sing, but not so much when you really go there. It definitely puts me off adding too many purely entertaining things…I can’t imagine how much it must break down everything to really pile on the doohickies… There is definitely something to be said for Apple keeping everything tightly controlled so at least it all WORKS…
The evasi0n jailbreak supports iOS 6.0 through iOS 6.1.2. The OP was submitted when 6.1 was current, but Apple released OS updates since, and evasi0n has been updated to support the updates as well. iOS 6.1.3 will not be supported by evasi0n.
You do not need to restore to iOS 6.1 to jailbreak your device. You can either jailbreak your device as-is on the existing OS version, or upgrade to iOS 6.1.2 and then jailbreak. If you’re planning to upgrade to iOS 6.1.2 and then jailbreak, here are the steps:
Apple TV 2nd generation can be jailbroken. Here’s the latest:
Apple TV 2nd gen jailbreak includes support for XBMC. Plex is not yet supported on 5.1+ versions of Apple TV software.
Apple TV 3rd gen is highly unlikely to be jailbroken any time soon. On ATV3, Apple disables the micro-USB port on boot up, so a bootrom-level exploit is needed for a jailbreak.
A bootrom exploit is exponentially harder than a userland exploit, and a userland exploit is damn hard to begin with:

No; and there won’t be. If you’re waiting for an ATV3 jailbreak, don’t.
Thanks for your PM. Glad it worked for you eventually, even though it took multiple reboots.
BeeKeyboard looks like a fantastic tweak! Unfortunately, I don’t have much experience with it so I can’t help you with this query. Your best bet would be to email the developer directly, or ask on Reddit - The heart of the internet. That’s also the best jailbreak community I’ve come across for all things jailbreak.
Yeah, some of the tweaks are unbelievable. I’ll post a list of the tweaks I have installed if anyone’s interested.
Jailbreaking itself doesn’t cause any issues; it’s usually poorly written or buggy tweaks that cause issues. My advice for anyone new to jailbreaking is to follow these common-sense steps:
I have over 20 tweaks installed, and my device is working beautifully.
In the past I had JB my Ipad2 using a different method but had to restore because I found that there was a significant battery drain. Don’t know what it was…
Has this issue been resolved with the newer jainbreaks? I now have an Ipad 4 and would love to 'break it.
Thanks,
Steve
Has there been any news on getting the Weather App back? I’ve since installed AccuWeather as a substitute and I think I’m too conditioned and prefer the apple app instead.
The jailbreak itself does not cause battery drain.
Follow my steps above. Start with NO tweaks, then after a couple of days install one tweak at a time (preferably one per day) and you will know which tweak causes battery issues, if any.
A good way to test is to install one tweak a day, make sure your battery is charged to 100% before you go to sleep at night, unplug the charger, wake up in the morning and check your battery percentage. If it’s below 95% when you wake up, something on your device is causing an unusual battery drain.
The iPad 4 is supported by the evasi0n.com jailbreak.
This issue has been fixed a while ago. If you’re already Jailbroken, just launch Cydia on your device and install any updates that show up. The weather app should work after the updates are installed.
