If anyone ever saw the movie “Stand and Deliver” it’s his life as a math teacher in a poor school district.

An amazing person.

While I respect what he DID accomplish, Escalante himself freely admitted that

  1. His students were generally middle class or lower middle class, and not as destitute as the movie made them out to be.

  2. The gang situation at his school wasn’t nearly as bad as the movie made it out to be.

  1. He also never got anyone from basic fractions to calculus in a single year, as the movie depicts.

But you can’t complain about a guy like him. Dude went from teaching calculus to commanding a whole Battlestar.
