Jamaican beef patties

Despite the fact that my experiment making Jamaican beef patties turned out merely ok (which may have been my fault somehow, though I followed the recipe very closely), I now have a hankering for a good old-fashioned beef pastie: traditional lunch of the old Cornish miners who brought their recipe with them when they emigrated to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and worked the copper mines.

I used to camp up in the U.P. a lot, and on the way or coming home from the campsite I’d make a point to stop at a mom & pop roadside diner and get a pastie smothered with beef gravy. Yum. Been years since I had one.
