Jambo, bwana!

Just got done watching Grace Kelly swooning all over the jungle in Mogambo. Not a bad flick, considering the time frame. I love these Africa location movies, particularly my faves: Zulu and Shaka Zulu

But I remember seeing one about a hundred years ago that I can’t remember the name of. It had a lot of inserted African footage (as most of them do), and one of the scenes that stuck with me my entire life was one of a cat of some sort (my memory says leopard, but I knew from nuttin’ back then) being killed by a large constrictor of some sort. It was remarkable footage. Any help identifying this film is appreciated.

Man, this thread sank like…um…a thing that sinks real fast. Any help on this film? One bump only.

Amazon.com:"<snip> Later we see the jaguars take on a boa constrictor and the mother jaguar take time out to teach her youngster how to swim."

Jungle Cat (1960)

Since you’re on an African themed movie jag, I always like Hatari with John Wayne.

Button your collar, man! Where do you think you are?

This has absolutely nothing to do with your thread, but yesterday, out of the blue more or less, I had a flashback to an old 1950’s movie I saw as a kid, back when throwing knives and shooting bows and arrows was the thing. It was a safari like thing where some dude with a bow and arrow was making unbelievable shots at long distances, killing African critters. It was well before Hatari and was way better (as I recall) than any of the Tarzan movies. I was in a fix trying to remember the dude’s name.

I know I had a Ben Pearson bow as a little kid, so I tried web searches on his name and associations with movies. No luck. Then I tried Fred Bear because I bought a Bear bow in my early 20’s, and still nothing showed up to convince me either of those guys was in that old movie I saw way back when.

Then it suddenly hit me: Howard Hill. I checked links on his name and sure enough the move Tembo seems to be what I was remembering. The shot I believe I’m recalling was a good 100 yard shot at this big elephant running toward the camera.

As I say, no help on the thread topic, but something weirdly associated with it, at least to me.

FWIW, I have a vague recollection of a scene such as described in the OP, with no ideas to help in that search.

Don’t think so. In the film I’m thinking of, the cat meets its end.

Yeah, and Elephant Walk and Snows of Kilimanjaro.

I also recommend King Solomon’s Mines and The Naked Prey. However, TNP gave me the willies, because I watched it when I was about nine years old in a drive-in and it haunted me for years. It still bothers me to this day.

Is that the one with the soldier ants eating people? Scared the crap outa me, too.

No, that was The Naked Jungle.

The Naked Prey was about a safari through hostile African territory - something went wrong, they pissed off a native tribe, and the tribe invented various creative tortures to perform on the members of the safari. Cornell Wilde escapes, however, and leads their best hunters on a manhunt through the jungle.

It was the torture scenes that did me in.

I knew it had something to do with nudity. Hey, if someone revived the combined movie title, we could have The Naked Blackboard Jungle Book. I wouldn’t even attempt a plot line.

Gives new meaning to “The Bare Necessities.”
