Woah…
Not more than 20 minutes ago I saw the ticker thingy on E! saying he was in the hospital for pneumonia, and was expecting a recovery for a performance next week. In my head, I was thinking “This is it…”.
I guess it was
Man, I just came here to post this.
What a drag.
Slee
slee, I was in chat when I heard about it.
.
I was thinking it could not be it! I figured he’d weather this, and go on to live to be 100!
Damn.
damn, he lived a damn full life and brought a lot of joy.
WOAH
We got the same news about James Brown and my wifes father tonight. Both in ICU, pneumonia, looking grim.
James died, John (so far) has not. It’s not looking good though.
I suppose if he does die, it would be nice to die the same day and James Brown.
Over in the Deathpool 2007 thread one poster, Southpaw, had Augusto Pinochet on his/her 2007 list. Pinochet died, so the first alternate, James Brown, moved up. Now Brown has died.
It’s not looking good for Nichelle(Lt. Uhura) Nichols!
The first thing I heard on Xmas morning when I turned on the radio wads the announcement of his death.
RIP, King of Soul. And a special nod for your appearance in the Blues Brothers.
Do you see the light?
I saw James Brown perform live at an outdoor music festival in 1998. He was still dancing, jumping around, hitting the requisite high notes, and all that good stuff. I’ll always treasure the memory of that concert, since I knew I was in the presence of a legend who wouldn’t be with us forever. But he hung on for a long time and had a great run.
Not only the King of Soul, but the Master of Funk. A music innovator who knew how to bring it. Well, poppa’s got a new bag to deal with now, for sure.
One of the first records I ever bought was a 45 rpm recording of “Please, Please, Please” by The Famous Flames. That was James Brown’s first.
The bells are ringing
They say ‘oh go and see’
The bells are ringing
They’re ringing out for me
From JB’s “The Bells”, circa 1960.
John Lee Hooker, Johnny Cash, now James Brown… the heroes of my youth are falling like flies. Next somebody on The Dope will be tryin’ to say Elvis is dead…
He feels dead. I know that he would, now.
There’s always some big celeb, every year, who dies just too late for the year-end roundups in the magazines.
(As a publishing person, it’s just the kinda thing I think of . . . 73’s not a bad age, though, and at least he’d only been sick a few days . . .)
ARRGGHHHH! I (don’t) FEEL GOOD! :smack:
There’ll be good rocking in Heaven tonight.
Thank you, Mr Brown, for everything, and most especially for Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag.
tips the hat, and grooves to “I Feel Good”
While alive, he lived. Would but that could be said of all of us.
I live in Augusta and my mom said at Christmas everyone used to go to his house to look at the lights.
