And further, that bulb costume was clearly a garlic bulb! False advertising!
Wait what?
etv78. Ended up in a nursing home for a while because of it. It’s his dad’s fault, I’m sure.
etv78 explains (and simultaneously raises further questions) here.
That indeed does raise further questions. Any answers out there?
We were trying to figure things out in this thread which is where I first learned about the bladder thing.
ETA: The pee related stuff starts at post ten.
Huh, I didn’t realize that was his response to me in the other thread until you quoted it here. He really does seem absolutely determined to not answer any questions he doesn’t like, no matter how reasonable. What exactly does he want from the gym? Does he really believe that every single machine that he wants must be made available to him? Does he really not see the potential danger in doing unapproved exercises on machines not designed for them?
These are reasonable things to wonder. But if you ask them you get the same response I gave to my Dad when he asked about school when I was 14. accompanied by heavy sighing and “god, don’t you know anything?”. He may as well stomp off to his room and slam the door and put on tragically loud Metallica music.
It never worked for me as an argument technique when I was a teenager and by about 16 I grew out of trying. I don’t know why he’s clinging to it, but even more so I don’t know why he brings up topics here that he clearly doesn’t want to actually discuss, and then acts like it’s totally unreasonable when anyone posts something other than “wow, good job! You’re a genius!”.
It was here that I read it, although he has brought it up elsewhere I think. He details the accident a few posts before that.
Maybe I’m just used to a less litigious society than the one in the US, but I can’t imagine suing a doctor over that situation. It’s pretty clear that an injury that severe would be fatal without surgery - a quick google shows fatality rates upwards of 80% and a high incidence of complications. So a doctor steps in, performs surgery which allows this patient to beat the odds and survive, and as a reward he gets his pants sued off. I bet that will teach him.
I have yet to see any content worthy of more meaty responses.
I agree with this. Most people just wouldn’t give a shit about the disabled because they are not one, so it boggles their mind when one stands up (figuratively speaking) and does something about it. Reminds me of how Christians treat atheists. Every atheist is a “militant” one if they dare to stand up and demand they not be attacked and just be treated fairly
This guy is literally suing a place that a.) Hasn’t broken the law (whenever this is pointed out to him he just tells us that he’s already explained, ignoring that his explanations are insufficient) and b.) The law he’s proposing it’s broken doesn’t come into effect until 2012.
Go look at the restaurant thread. There were plenty of people condemning the restaurant people as assholes.
They see him rollin’, they hatin’.
Well I don’t agree with everything he does. That post was just my general feeling on things. When he stopped behind the car parked in the handicapped space, I smiled. I only wish I had the courage to be that confrontational. I don’t agree that Jaime is a bad guy overall despite some of the things he does. He strikes me as somsone who is probably an ass, but was disabled so now he uses that assholery for good, and for people who can’t stand up (figuratively speaking) for themselves. How many of us would be cowed and meek if we suddenly lost the use of our legs? I’d probably just cry myself to death in a corner somewhere. Kudos to Jaime for doing something about it
So you know this guy is wrongfully suing people and you still think he’s good people? Are you fucking kidding me?
Really? I’m sure I’m gonna take flak for this, but parking in a handicapped spot is a pretty minor fucking crime. He wasn’t blocking him in because he’s a crusader for justice, he was doing it because he’s a self-righteous asshole. You know, the same reason he’s wrongfully suing people.
We’re not the ones who are altering our judgments of him because he’s disabled. That’s you.
I lost any shred of respect I had for jamiemcgarry after I PM’d him to apologize for being, perhaps, insulting in a recent thread of his. Prior to that exchange I was willing to accept him as a gadfly, someone who believed in something strongly enough to take an unpopular stance.
His response was the same old wide-eyed passive-aggressive bullshit he pulls on the forums: You misunderstand my posts, I’m a well-meaning innocent and people either misunderstand me or gasp react in a hostile and baffling way to my polite, well-meaning questions.
Also he suggested that I no longer open any of his posts, since I was clearly prejudiced, had my mind made up about him before I even opened his thread, and misunderstood his poor innocent self.
I didn’t respond to his last whining little PM to me. His tone in his private messages to me was whining and predictable, with not a shred of acknowledgement that I was trying to make nice.
He’s a passive-aggressive, weak little troll in a wheelchair, and was no doubt a passive-aggressive, weak little troll when he was still able to walk. Fuck you, jaimemcgarry. No wonder you still live with mommy and daddy in Davison.
Oh, bullshit.
My bubby lived with us for the last 13 years of her life. She walked with a cane and had two artificial knees. I learned early on to make sure anyplace we went had handicapped accomadations and to loathe folks who parked in the handicapped spots without a permit. During the last ten years of his life, my dad was handicapped. Then, there was all the (highly enjoyable) time I spent caring for my great uncle max in his wheelchair.
I am not shocked or angered by the handicapped advocating for themselves. JamieMcGarry strikes me as an asshole because he is one.
I get that jamie wants to be an advocate for disabled rights, and that’s both an admirable and very necessary role. The problem is, he’s fucking awful at it. I’m fully, 100% on board with equal access for disabled people, and I have, at least, an academic understanding of the sort of prejudice and condescension disable people are often subjected to. But whenever I read one of his threads, I end up wanting to go out, find someone in a wheelchair, and kick them down a flight of stairs.
This is not, I think, the sort of reaction that helps his cause.
With respect to the “Under the Radar” thread, as mentioned, it appears that the health club doesn’t need to comply with the 2010 ADA requirements until March of 2012.
In fact, after a brief glance at the issue, depending whether there were 1991 standards that affected the health club and the health club complied with same, the health club may not even have to comply until it undergoes significant modification or renovation i.e., even if it is after 2012.
Simply put, the gym is quite likely in compliance with the ADA and Jamie seems to acknowledge this. I would appreciate some sort of explanation from Jamie regarding this. I suppose all of the people who mentioned this issue might be missing something. However, I don’t think so. Could you please explain?
[sub]I have only vague familiarity with the ADA so if I am horribly wrong please don’t mock me. [/sub]
Jamie seems to be well-intentioned but approaches things in a confrontational way. I just assumed that since he is a weight lifter it was “roid rage”. (Note: I have no actual evidence to state that he is on steroids-it’s just that bodybuilder+short-tempered+aggressive=steroids in many cases).
Hate to nitpick and I don’t feel like digging for the post but he was in fact over the legal limit. I’m pretty sure he mentioned he was 19 or 20 at the time of his accident, in which case the legal limit is zero.
