Jan 6 Hearings Follow-Along & Commentary Thread (Starts Jun 9, 2022)

Not really.

He’s been consistent on this, as he claimed cheating on Hillary’s part in the 2016 election, saying that he should have won the popular vote, too.

Stupid, but consistent.

Since 1888, no incumbent President has gained votes and lost reelection. I received many millions more votes in 2020 than I did in 2016, unheard of in our political History.

I think he fails to understand the how massively he is hated by so many in this country.
He’s trying to understand how he lost to Biden. It’s not about Biden. The vote was largely anti-Trump. He needs to let that sink in.

The most beloved political figure in US history is not capable of that.

Also, she was willing to OWN it. She didn’t want to punch Trump out and blame Antifa, Mike Pence or some anonymous staffer. She didn’t want to claim it didn’t happen or that Trump punched himself. She was willing to take the consequences and happily go to jail for it. I call that civil disobedience at its finest.

Oy. I’d say thanks for the link but my brain cells started burrowing through the back of my skull in a frantic attempt to escape by the second page and I’m still gathering what’s left of my scattered wits.

I’d commission a sculpture to commemorate the event. I’d call it “Glass Ceiling/Glass Jaw.”

The committee doesn’t need to ask him anything; just swear him in, sit him down, and show him all the other testimony on the big screen over their heads until he snaps.

I like very much!

Give him some Adderall first.

Except don’t show him the infamous “Josh Hawley flees” clip—he’d enjoy that one. (He’s never short of malice toward others, even those who are supposedly on his side.)

It’s appalling–as is the apparent DOD blocking of National Guard help at the Capitol, presumably under orders from Trump (conveyed by someone else, probably. Meadows, at a guess).

None of this is the focus of the Jan 6 Committee, understandably–they had their hands full with their mission to show Trump at the center of all the plotting.

But the conduct of the Secret Service, Dept. of Defense, FBI…all this is horrifyingly in need of thorough investigation.

(If the GOP regains control of Congress, obviously such investigation will never happen.)

Don’t despair. It would only delay the investigation 2 years.

Glenn Kirschner discusses Trumps response. It IS funny.

I thought he self-dosed.

Who can order an investigation of the Secret Service? Would that be the DOJ?

DOJ could. Homeland Security probably also has internal investigation capacity.

It might be the United States House Committee on Oversight and Reform. Especially since that would involve one branch investigating another rather than the Executive investigating itself.

The SS, Treasury, Homeland Security are all part of the Executive Branch, so Biden could easily order such an investigation. So could Garland.

I was just wondering if it might be better optics for the Legislature to do it.

Maybe, but we want a complete and intense investigation. Better to leave it to the pros. A lot of them are pissed at what they rightly see as an act of betrayal.

As long as pissed-ness overrides loyalty to each other in the case of, say, the SS investigating itself.
