Jan 6 Hearings Follow-Along & Commentary Thread (Starts Jun 9, 2022)

Because today they could show the hearings without pre-empting Tucker & Hannity.

We can agree to disagree on the strength of the cases brought against Trump, but there’s no universe where I’ll believe 17 GOP senators would have voted to convict.

They proved that when they backed him in the first place.

Likewise, I don’t believe that Ukraine will get Crimea back anytime soon but that doesn’t mean that there’s no value in putting in your best fight.

Proving things has value. Whether a group of professional liars are willing to follow truth or not, be as it may, isn’t the start and end of the equation.

I really hope that the Justice folks go after finding where that $250 billion “fraud fund” disappeared to. Much of it went into Trump’s pocket, I’m sure, and continues to do so as he keeps yammering about fake voter fraud. Trump has always been adept at being a cheap huckster who preys on the gullible.

I thought that today’s testimony was devastating and pointed to conspiracy and fraud. By the time they’re done, Justice should have plenty of ammunition for indictments.

I think that’s million, not billion. Not that you couldn’t have a nice party with it.

I’m wondering if and when Stephen Miller’s name will be brought forward.

Right. My brain was thinking 1/4 billion and I wrote 250 billion instead.

Good question. No news about him for quite awhile.

I figure he slithered back to his crypt somewhere at Mar-a-Lago and is quietly licking his eyebrows until he can resurface as DeSantis’s right hand Nazi.

He may be getting hair plugs. The spray paint didn’t work as well as Giuliani said it would.

Okay, that made me laugh right out loud and startle the cat sleeping next to my elbow.

Dinesh D’Souza claptrap.

Niece.

It’s a transparently preposterous conspiracy theory and a cleanser a hundred times stronger than regular borax!

Favored by Ronald Reagan.

No. A full and complete confession and solid video would not have gotten past McConnell Iron wall. It was pure party politics. Now if Mitch had been convinced that doing so would win the GOP elections, he would have thrown trump under the bus.

Exactly.

No. Many people backed trump in 2016 who had honor and bravery. But those dumped him in 2020.

IMHO the idea of these hearings is to let Garland as AG say convincingly- Congress made the case, so I am prosecuting. Which they are doing.

Imagine that you and I were standing in the kitchen, with a group of people, at a party. There’s one sandwich left over, for the guests. I grab up that final morsel and I say:

Mr Deth, you cannot be trusted with this sandwich. You would steal it from me and eat it without ever offering me a bite. That being true, I shall eat it first without offering you any, so that you do not have the opportunity to be the thief that we both know that you are.

In the minds of all of the people watching, who has come out as the more trustworthy party in this matter? Have they been convinced that you’re a bad guy? Have they become convinced that I’m the good guy?

Success comes in many forms. Getting Trump removed from office, to be sure, would have been great. But if you’ve rendered him politically toxic - even though he stays in office - that’s still a win. If you move 10% of the swing voters permanently over to your side, so that he could never mathematically win an election ever again, that’s still a win.

Likewise, failure comes in many forms. One type of failure might be to fail to have Trump removed from office. An even greater failure is that not only do you fail to remove him from office, you give him more power by proving to the general public that he’s the maligned party and you’re the sort of bloke who would blame another guy for stealing sandwiches when you’re the clear and obvious sandwich stealer.

Accusing someone of being a villain is counterproductive if it’s going to be the thing that saves the villain at every corner from ever having to prove himself a villain.

Or ceased being honorable and brave.

Their legal department is begging them to please shut up and air the hearings without comment.

When the hearings get to the Dominion part, we should all send in viewer questions to ask them to explain that part.
Nevermind that hour without commercials- this stuff is gonna bankrupt them: they can’t help themselves.

FOX can’t not comment. They HAVE to comment. Comment is what they are all about. Their viewers don’t know (1) what they’re seeing or (2) what to think about it unless someone tells them.

Thank you; I did it as much for myself as anyone, as there is a LOT of conflicting information about the schedule out there. (As Senegoid mentioned and as I alluded to in the post to which you refer, it’s still not clear whether the Thursday, June 16 hearing begins at 10am or at 1pm.)

Worse, there are now conflicting reports as to the total number of hearings. Some sources are saying “seven,” as seen on this NPR page:

Further into the article they say that AFTER today’s second hearing (Monday, June 13):

But like the vast majority of online articles, this one provides NO list of dates (let alone starting times!)

A Yahoo page claims that there are seven hearings total, but also that AFTER the first hearing there will be seven more:

So far as I know, one plus seven gives eight, not seven. (No list of dates in this article either. Links for both of these citations at bottom of this post.)

That is concerning. (My bolding.)

MSNBC is providing a do-over of the hearings tonight, starting at 5PT, because, they specifically state, prime time viewing is critically important.
