In the context of presenting video evidence that shows a clear pattern of “casing the joint” by photographing security checkpoints and such, their statement was rather restrained.
I don’t know if anyone has posted this yet, but I found a copy of the 1776 Returns document, which is the Proud Boys detailed written plan for the insurrection. And it’s actually pretty detailed.
It also seems way more aspirational than what really happened.
The plan called for the occupation of 7 buildings, the Capitol itself was not on the list. An inside person, the team leader was supposed to gain access to each building by deception, like making an appointment with someone inside, and that person would let in the team for that building. Each team included a leader, a second and a “hypeman”, someone to lead chants and rile up the rest of the team. Each team was supposed to be comprised of at least 50 members.
The plan also included putting people in multiple locations around DC to pull fire alarms to divert police ( I do see the obvious flaw there, but I didn’t write the plan) and to block traffic.
Now, ISTM that this plan, as written, would require about 500 highly organized insurrectionists, which may be why it’s at such variances with what really happened. But I hope they’ve looked into it to see how much, if any, of this was happening underneath the chaos.
Rachel maddow is reporting on it.
Yeah, I’m watching it.
Apparently, the “innocent tourist” took pictures of the Democratic office directory and the outside of Jerry Nadler’s office door….and the next day (Jan 6th) he made specific threats against Nadler on the Facebook livestream.
I’m curious about the Capitol Police saying there was nothing suspicious about the tour on the 5th. I thought the Capitol was closed to the public. I also heard Joe Scarborough this morning talking about this and he said when he was in congress, the picture taking would have been a big no-no.
Confusing.
That was the consensus of the crack investigative team of Schultz, Clouseau, and Drebin.
Excellent point.
That’s a classic technique.
The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

it is confusing. the tours were shut down and they weren’t in the usual tourist areas.
although i would be interested in the connecting tunnels and the congress tram thing… just curiosity for me. just a big fan of connecting tunnels, secret passages, and the ilk.
I was thinking Howard, Howard, and Fine. Really, Capitol Police, what the devil were you thinking? Who the fuck takes pictures of stairwells and tunnels? I think we need to investigate the nitwits who thought there was nothing to see here.
I guess today is how the screws were put to Pence day. Should be interesting but not sure what new info we’ll get.
Who did this “review” – Stevie Wonder?? I’m going to say that the Capitol Police did not do their job, if this video was available to them at the time they did their investigation.
How about Dewey, Cheetham & Howe?
If someone came to my place of work and took video showing the entrance to my office, then the next day took video outside the building with an armed associate stating they were coming to take me out, and posted those videos online, I would think that a crime had been committed, or at the very least the police wouldn’t state that, “the visit was completely benign.”
And I’m just a regular dude, not a congressman.
I thought perhaps John Barron had wormed his way into the investigation.
just finished reading this. really a well thought out plan. on page 2, i did find humour in the targeted buildings, the last one was: “cnn-at least egg doorway”.
also found irony in the: “use covid to our advantage. pack huge face masks & face shields, protect your identity.” this direction was mentioned a few times. might be the only time they wore masks.
i am a bit baffled on this sentence: " be cautious, some fire alarms may spray something at the person who pulls it." i don’t know any fire alarms that do this. what do they spray? dye? to mark the person, fire suppressant? incase the person is on fire, water? also incase of flaming person… baffled.
Tamper dye.
Just did some googling, other than the product that Lance_Turbo posted it seems to be an urban legend. It certainly doesn’t seem to be built into any fire alarm handles.
Yeah, this is one of those things I heard about in my youth but have never actually seen. I also suspected it might be an urban legend and was mildly surprised it was an actual product available for purchase.
I always thought that they were little glass vials that would break and spray dye, not just putting dye on it like you are pranking someone.
I suppose it makes sense for that to be an urban legend that they want us to believe.
At the same time, such protections are easily defeated by glove technology.
I once saw a bit in The Onion about various supposed failed precursors to the Trojan Horse. One was “The Trojan cockroach, defeated by The Trojan Shoe”.
