No, it was because Kirk wouldn’t look at her legs. ![]()
She looks remarkably like my high school German teacher in that photo! :o
James Doohan had an unappealing hair style in the third season as I recall.
It was just combed back and wasn’t very flattering. In other shows of the time that I’ve seen him in, though, it was pretty much the same.
The picture is of Hubert Farnsworth. Philo is his (and Rand’s, presumably) ancestor, who invented the television camera circa 1927.
Anyway. this guy has images of a few suggested hairstyles for Rand.
And T’Pring had a comparably elaborate 'do.
Wigs were pretty popular in the 60s, especially beehives, so yeah, viewers might’ve just assumed it was a wig.
They wanted a “Davey Jones type” on the show to appeal to the teenage audience.
I never noticed this before, but now that I’ve read about it…watching a couple episodes I couldn’t help but notice it. (Also, Kirk had an awfully casual haircut, at least in season 3…)
I distinctly remember a *Lost in Space *episode where Maureen and Judy had a machine that looked like a hair-dryer that they used to try out various hairdos. Hard to believe the Federation couldn’t match that technological triumph.![]()
Notice how the hair in his toupes got longer as the 60s progressed. ![]()
They had to have that in LiS, since there was no room on the Jupiter II for nonessential personnel.

It was a very popular style back in the 60s… ![]()
That means she’s also related to Philip J. Fry. The mind boggles!
Yeah, and there’s Kelinda in By Any Other Name. But there’s still plenty whose hair wouldn’t raise any eyebrows, either.

Troi had a strange do at the beginning of STtNG.
Those Vulcan helmets, as do the Romulan ones in The Enterprise Incident save money on pointed ears.
Here’s a better pic of (TOS) T’Pau; I’m pretty sure that’s hair and not a helmet. ![]()
