Just saw the movie tonight; my thoughts in the next post, to avoid spoilers in the OP.
I thought it was a good film generally.
Pros:
- Matt Damon was excellent and I thought the hacking plot was well done
- The CGI work in making 2010’s Matt Damon look like 1990’s Matt Damon was first rate.
- I liked the whole, the leaks occurred, people suffered and things returned to business as usual.
- I thought the chases and fight scene were well done, they went for the lets make them super over the top route, which made them fun to see rather than try to have “realism”, where all that happens is that you are puzzled why Mr Bourne is not currently red paste on a wall.
Cons
- Killing off Nicky Parsons, it was so obvious that it was going to happen, made me annoyed at the whole Athens scene. I am also pissed that they did not explore the hinted prior relationship (from Ultimatium).
- Tommy Lee Jones looked like his scenes had been obtained at gunpoint.
- Alicia Vikander was pretty unbelievable in her role. Seriously Hollywood, stop giving parts to IT Girls.
I thought her performance was fine, but yeah, she looks like an intern.
Matt Damon made a joke some years ago about making another Bourne film and it being called “The Bourne Redundancy”. That was pretty much what I thought of while watching the movie. That may sound like I wouldn’t like the movie, but I did. For what the Bourne movies are, they are always top notch. I just think the movie retreads a lot of the same ground of the previous movies. If this series were to continue, it really needs to kill off the rogue CIA program thing and move on to some other plot types.
That was one hell of a tough SWAT vehicle. And I’ll pick Dodge Charger for my next offroad session!
