Jason Statham and Burt Reynolds in a medieval monster movie

Wait, what? I would have thought you were making this up. Nope.

In the Name of the King 2007

"The film was nominated for five Razzie Awards, including Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actor (Burt Reynolds) and Worst Supporting Actress (Leelee Sobieski) with Uwe Boll winning Worst Director.

That’s impressive.

It makes more sense when you realize Boll was making these movies almost entirely to exploit a financial loophole.

I mean, yes indeed. It’s Uwe Boll, and this is who he is. And this isn’t even remotely his lowest-ranked film!

My understanding is that Boll made the movies he did because he felt they were good movies. It was his investors who were looking at the tax breaks.

Yeah he was making what he thought were good movies just on a very specific budget. A couple of his films are actually pretty decent, Far Cry isn’t actually that bad for a video game adaption if you’re into B action shlock.

My wife was watching it on one of the Asian channels when I caught a glimpse of Burt Reynolds looking not all that old (good makeup?) A few minutes later I remarked, “Hey that guy looks like Jason Statham”. “It is Jason Statham”. I couldn’t fathom that a youngish Burt Reynolds and Jason Statham had ever crossed paths.

Boll also offered to fight his critics in the ring (and did so at least once), until a writer who had mocked him named Seanbaby agreed to it. Seanbaby actually has a black belt, so apparently Uwe backed down.
