JavaJane.

Just got banned over at their message boards for not being female. I joined about a month ago, and, after PMing 2 admins, was warmly welcomed by them and the majority of the members.
They seemed to like having a male’s perspective on things and open to me being there. In fact, one of the admins and co founders is male. He posts on there all the time.

So I post a bit, only in one forum, mind you. I never went into any of the womans’ personal issue forums or other things that women may have been uncomfy for a male to read. I only stuck with the main discussion forum.

Anyway, I leave for a bit, say, about 3 weeks, and when I come back only after being reminded by a female friend of mine (she wanted me to see a debate topic going on there). Thing is, you can’t get into the debate forum there without being given access. So I PM one of the mods, and wind up promply banned.

Turns out a rule was made in the time I was not there. No more males allowed. Under no circumstances.

Hey, I can respect that. Thing is the male admin is still allowed to post. Man…I don’t get it. I realize that it’s “not a democracy” and they can ban you for any reason they see fit, but why is it okay to have and allow a male there? I know he’s the admin and co-founder. But the two mods I talk to told me the reason I can post/visit is because the presence of a male makes some feel uncomfy. Fine. Understandable. But what about the male admin? Or is he “okay” and “exempt” because they all know him and he’s the one who helped make the site? Because he’s a part of the group he’s accepted and all other males get banned. The new rules, as stated to me are “NO males allowed.”

Again, I know that they can ban you for whatever reason, but is it so bad to ask for a little fairness? :frowning:

FTR, I was just going to read the said topic my friend told me about and probably never go back, but that “PM for access” was the thing I had to get first.

sigh

That’s kind of silly. Especially since it’s astoundingly easy to lie about one’s gender. I’d wager that there are several males who are members and either don’t post, or lie about it. Meh.

Holly crap, there’s a lot of info over there!

This is the internets version of the Vagina Monologues.

Uh hmm cough, I mean, how them Bears?

Well, yea, it kinda is, I guess. :stuck_out_tongue: Sorry for not putting the warning in for anyone curious enough to go over and check it out. I keep forgetting that some guys prefer not knowing about some women’s info.

But like I said, I only ever frequented the Main Discussion forum. And hey, it’s all well and good if they want to exclude males now (even after all welcoming me and telling me I was allowed there), I just don’t like the idea of No males whatsoever (for the reason they gave me; it was uncomforable to them) but having a male post there, regardless of whether he’s an admin or not. I guess it must not be too uncomfortable if he’s there? Either that or, like I said, they know him so he’s deemed “okay”. Just seems kind of unfairish.

shrug

I needed to vent, since I only went there to read a debate regarding God and give my friend (who doesn’t have a penis and is a member there) my opinion on it. sigh

Oooh, you must be referred by a member…

Yea, I was. When I first regestered and made a topic, I told them this, and they all were fine with me being there.

The way the mod told me today was that “one or two felt uncomfortable with you here.”

So they catered to the one or two other then the majority of them who were happy to have me there.
Ah well, I’ll live. Just seemly sucks.

Next time someone complains about sig length limitations, remind me to point them there.

Jeeze, they have to divide their staff into “Administrator, Manager, Supermoderator, and Moderator”? That’s really splitting hairs…

If an Admin is male, it seems not only silly but also ignorant to BAN a Member in otherwise good standing because they are male. In addition to the fact that it seems to be a case of Message Board ex post facto to let you in and then change the rules.

Maybe that’s an indication that the Board isn’t worth it? The Members obivously don’t have a serious issue with the policy, or else they wouldn’t be there I imagine…
