Javascript problem

I’m having trouble with my computer. Sometimes when I go to a site that has javascript, I get a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the corner of the window, with either the message “Done but with errors” or “Error on page”. Sometimes the usually normal website has a bunch of gibberish at the top of the screen. Forms are often screwed up (usually can’t pull anything down). A bunch of little problems like this.

I can’t figure out what the heck is going on and it’s driving me crazy! Sometimes I can get it to work by deleting my cookies (which I hate having to do) but then it stops working again a very short while later. I’ve tried a few other things but I cannot for the life of me get that blasted triangle to leave me alone for good.

Any tips/explanation/help would be very much appreciated.

Please tell us what OS and browser you are using, and versions. If you can provide more information about the errors you are getting, it might be helpful as well. You can double-click that yellow (!) icon and it will open a dialog with some additional information.

Sorry, I meant to include all that but I submitted too soon. Windows XP, IE 6.

Typical error message is something like this (from www.westjet.ca website):
Line: 898
Char: 3
Code: 0
Error: Object expected
URL: http://c0dsp.westjet.com/internet/sky/

Many (perhaps even most) JS errors are caused by an error on the site itself, and have nothing to do with the user.

But not in this case. I visited the site linked in the OP and encountered no errors.

Have you downloaded and installed all the latest patches for your version of IE? If not, that’s the first thing I would do.

Yes, I have the latest patch.

Have you turned off the switch in IE to report all errors? I think not.

Use a better browser!

Yes I have.

I had no problem with the linked site but I do have trouble with others.

When MS came out with that crippled version of Java VM with XP SP1, I downloaded the real version from Sun. This works in most cases, but there are some sites (Yahoo Chat, for one) which ONLY works with the MS version (I can’t imagine why).

You could try switching to the Sun version, but note that you will continue to be bugged by Windows Update that you need to upgrade your VM. DON’T.
