Translation: “There’s not enough racism in the world yet, let’s add some more.”
Nope.
When he said “if I have to create stories,” he meant it.
I know there’s a level at which this means just “remind the media to include cover certain things” – and that’s one level at which this phrase popped into Vance’s brain and came out his pie-hole. But his putting this in that way surely reveals, too, that he knows it’s all BS, and he’s largely responsible for broadcasting such BS.
ETA: I meant to reply to wolfpup’s post.
Maybe so. But my point was that this story was already in circulation among far-right lunatics, so he didn’t literally “create” it. I’m sure Vance has no compunctions whatsoever about creating lies to benefit himself or his orange master and does it all the time, but in this case he was just happily promoting hate against the immigrant community by giving more publicity to a fake story that was already out there. He’s making the excuse that “his constituents told him about it”, which is code for “he read it on some far-right garbage social media site” or, in this case, that Laura Loomer read it on some far-right garbage social media site and told him and Trump about it.
With apologies for introducing a bit of frivolity into a serious discussion, but this is really a great video (originally posted by @eschereal in the Trump Pit thread):
I posted this over in the thread on the Springfield issue:
Vance has the advantage that he knows “enlightened centrists” will rush to prove just enough cover for him to continue (see the valiant effort just a bit ago).
Another recent talking point on the Right: “Yes, we made up the cat thing, but you made up the couch thing, so there!” To which David Schraub has a well-argued response:
LOL, yep. Workmanly Trumpmanship.
Strange. I don’t recall Harris advancing the couch matter in the debate, as a reason not to vote for Trump/Vance.
I must have missed it.
Now if the Democrats had started a rumor that MAGA Republicans across the nation were invading furniture stores, terrorizing the owners and damaging the merchandise by repeatedly copulating with the goods on display —- then there might be an equivalence.
That was quite the image.
But remember, Jadey used protection: if these hordes of furniture lovers practiced safe gratification, the damage would be minimal.
“You made fun of JD, so we tried to turn the entire country against innocent legal Haitians.”
I am reminded of this scene:
“That is a fine chain of office you are wearing, Richard, may I see it?”
“Master Rich has been made Attorney General for Wales”
“Ahh, but Richard, it profits a man nothing to gain the whole world if he should loose his soul… but for Wales, Richard?”
–A Man For All Seasons
Being called “disgusting” by JD Vance is like being called a “pervert” by the Marquis de Sade.
True, “create stories” was a poor choice of words. Stephen King creates stories. JD Vance lies.
Want to explain that? I can’t see anything on xitter except a sign in box.
It’s this:
Vance: But I do think that we should take this opportunity to call for a reduction in the ridiculous and inflammatory political rhetoric coming from too many corners of our politics… We cannot tell the American people that one candidate is a fascist
“We need to keep that strictly on the Q.T.!”
Vance is winning friends at The Atlantic.
Excerpt:
Springfield, Ohio, is just the sort of beleaguered heartland manufacturing town that Donald Trump and J. D. Vance say the MAGA movement wants to help. Instead, the Republican ticket has chosen to make life miserable for the town and its residents for the sake of political gain.
The thing to remember is not just that Trump and Vance are lying about immigrants eating pets in Springfield. It’s that Vance is happy to admit that they’re lying. He’s done that twice, first in an X post last week and then once more on CNN yesterday. The senator from Ohio and Republican vice-presidential nominee insisted that he had to lie in order to get people to pay attention to the truth.
“If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do,” Vance said, an admission so brazen, it briefly dumbfounded Dana Bash, a veteran host who isn’t easily stunned.
Vance’s reply contains layers of cynicism. To lie for a political purpose—and then to admit to it—is to practice a politics so dishonest and so manipulative, it demonstrates pure contempt for the American public. Every local authority has said that no evidence supports the claims Trump and Vance are making; Vance has said reports are coming to his Senate office, though he admits they’re unverified—if they even exist…
Vance’s claim that they’re doing this to ease the suffering of the American people is equally cynical. Vance isn’t helping the people of Springfield—his own constituents. He’s making their lives much worse. Just ask them.
But you can tell them that one is a Marxist? Which Trump did during the national debate. I don’t recall Harris calling Trump a fascist on that stage.
I know Trump is visiting the town ( and haven’t they suffered enough?). I wonder if Harris or Walz should make a stop as well.
