I remember that even local press would sometimes run articles on how the Bushes were lining Jeb to be a presidential candidate sometime in the future. Heck, I read articles about some younger Bushes that were somewhat considered potential political material in the future.
Did GWB effectively killed the Bush brand? Any chance there’ll be another Bush in the white house after GB I failed to get reelected and GB II went down in flames?
I’d be willing to bet that W not only killed a chance of anybody named Bush ever getting elected to major public office, but that he has also caused the sale of Bush’s Baked Beans to fall.

Gosh, I hope so. Jeb’s role in the Schiavo circus leads me to think he’d be no different from GW.
Years and years from now, who knows. But upon leaving office, Jeb - who I’ve heard is the one who was believed to be a future President, not W - apparently told a journalist “no tengo futuro.” I think that made his view pretty clear.

No idea what that means literally, but Clinton insisted she wasn’t interested in running for President up until she did.
What would need to happen for people to think “Gee, I guess what we need is another Bush president”.
I, for one, think the name Bush is poisoned. We have our own poisoned politicians here, people that would not get elected to dog-catcher running against Hitler.

No tengo futuro = I have no future.
The only way Jeb could elevate his chances to the level required to become president would be to commit fratricide. This act would, however, make him technically ineligible to become president. This solution of a situation denied by circumstance is what’s commonly referred to as a Catch 2012.

No – if he were convicted of fratricide, he might be ineligible to vote. However, he would still be eligible to run and to be elected as president. Eugene Debs ran for president, and received 3.4% of the popular vote, in 1920 while in prison convicted under the Espionage Act of 1917.
The fact that more Americans were killed by terrorists during Bush’s administration than during the administrations of every other President combined isn’t sufficient reason to say that Bush failed on that issue?
