Storyline
You are Jaden, sent to the Jedi Academy to train in the Force after having done an impossible task: constructing a lightsaber with no training. You are sent on various missions to investigate a cult and what it’s up to. In no time you will find out the head enemy you will fight at the end, and if you’ve played Jedi Outcast you will know who it is when they are revealed. Unfortunately this is about the ONLY surprise in the storyline, as the overall plot can be determined simply by paying attention to what people say in the movie clips.
Overall Gameplay
People who get this game expecting nothing more than hack and slash throughout the entire thing will be pleasently surprised by some of the more interesting - and difficult - levels, such as a speederbike chase, defeating an invincible mutant Rancor and escaping imprisonment with only the Force and conventional weaponry (no lightsaber!!! ).
You start with a single lightsaber at the beginning at Medium style, but can get access to the dual or saber staff later if you choose. Taking every mission will allow you to get level 3 in 5 Force skills besides core force, so don’t worry about if you can fill up all of the ‘good’ or ‘bad’ side. You can.
In the end, while the game was a good romp in the hay, it still seems that it could have been better, but in what seems to be an annoying trend with LucasArts, they’ve done a half assed job on single player gameplay thinking that multiplayer will carry it. For example, the very end person you have to fight on the good side was fairly weak. I was owned faster by pissants wielding staff sabres than she did. Playing the dark side was MUCH harder, as the final fight is with someone close to you.
I’d also like to deliver a word of caution for those of you who plan on playing the game at a high level of difficulty and play the dark side: Beware. The final end levels on the good side have Good Jedi and the cultists. If you do bad, EVERYONE will hate you, so be prepared to get your assed kicked all over the final levels until you’ve reached the end, or just run like hell when you can
Overall, I’d give the game a 6 on a scale of 1-10. It’s definitely fun to play, but I’d wait until it’s gone down in price as it’s not worth 50 bucks.
And this is my little review, take it as you will.
Sanscour
[spoiler]Is Tavion behind it all? I was sort of hoping she would turn to the side of good after Katarn spared her, y’know, keeping the themes of the movies. Besides, she was really cool, and they already have an "evil villain introduced in the game, right?

Yeah, I downloaded the demo, and it didn’t seem nearly as polished as Jedi Knight or Jedi Outcast was. I’m probably gonna wait 'til it hits $30, and then pick it up… which’ll probably be sometime around spring of next year, after I’ve already gone through Half-Life 2, Doom 3, and Halo 2 like a raving, rabid psycho… and I’ll need something light to bring me back down after that.
I’ve had some fun with it, the review most in line with my thoughts is at Action Trip (though I think 87/100 is a bit high). Swooping down on guys with the saber from atop the speeder and the Ton-Ton was entertaining. There are a lot of new saber moves, unfortunately I did not find many useful in actual combat. Some replay value, since you must choose which powers to develop before each new level. The dark side/light side choice only comes into play very near the conclusion of the game.
The dismemberment option in the setup menu does not give you the full slice-and-dice treatment with the saber. To get it, hit “shift” + “~” to bing up the console. First enter “devmapall” to allow codes, then “g_saberrealisticcombat 20” (no quotemarks). I believe this also works in the demo.
I am in the middle of replaying Outcast, a game that for the most part I liked except for one element. If I wanted to jump on things I would be playing Stupid Mario Brothers.
Please tell me that this game stay away from constant jump puzzles. Please tell me that Nar Shadda, the city of places to fall from, has been bombed flat by the Sith!
Sorry Harp and Sword but there are some instances where jumping does come into play. But for the most part if you’re stuck you can use Force Sense and it will usually show you ways you can get past things.
Hmmm…Lightsaber storm troopers while on Ton Ton? I’ll have to try that, though on that level I did get a sick kick out of letting the yeti thing Skywalker dealt with pick me up so I could activate my lightsaber and chop its arm off.
I’ll probably play it again tonight since I’m slowly getting burned out on playing BD2. Just one more romance and I can stop playing it
I use that Ton-Ton bit as kind of a mini-game. Switch away from the saber before jumping on, lest you impale the poor thing by accident. Switch to saber once you are on top, you can change the blade from side to side by hitting move left/right and swinging. The saber goes away if you make the Ton-Ton run. Try to lop off the heads of the troopers as you ride by, like a gruesome game of polo. Be sure to use that code I mentioned above to get the full effect. This also works with the Yeti, lure him out of the cave and make passes at him.
I tried the code you put up Murcielago and it said it didn’t recognize the command after I did devmapall. And for the record no I didn’t use the quotation marks
What am I doing wrong? I want to get on my Ton Ton and play Storm Trooper polo! cries
I went back to the game and entered “g_saberrealisticcombat 20” without “devmapall” first and got “g_saberRealisticCombat is cheat protected” in the console. The game recognized the command though it added the capital R & C. You could check here and try a few other commands. Note they give a range of 1-20 for the saber command, I never tried any # other than 20
I’ve got a question for people who have this game… does it run about as good as Jedi Outcast did? My compter can run it, anyone think it’ll handle Jedi Academy?
