Wait Wait, Don’t tell Me had a live show in Phoenix a few years ago, which my wife and I attended. The local guest was Jeff Flake, which took some guts, because both the host and the majority of the audience were pretty strongly anti-GOP.
Jeff was gracious, funny, and charming, and has turned (along with John McCain) into a voice of reason in the otherwise insane GOP. I won’t vote for him, but I wouldn’t be upset if he won.
Although out of office, former Governor Shwarzenegger is on that list. Yesterday he appeared at a meeting of a small group of Republicans trying to gain traction within the CA GOP, New Way California. Kasich apparently was in the neighborhood and showed up too.
Flake may be considering a run but he’s already behind if he is. Kasich continues to look like he’s actively preparing for the possibility. He’s at least campaigning for issues he sees in the party that fall outside his immediate role as Governor. Aside from CA, he’s making a visit to New Hampshire for a “fireside chat” on April 3rd. His preferred choice of venues to discuss issues he has the party seems to line up with the early* primary states.
- For those that didn’t notice CA moved it’s 2020 cycle up to Super Tuesday, March 3rd. That’s a pretty significant change for both parties.
They would absolutely be used against him relentlessly. But even if both his kids were war heroes, Nobel laureates, and ran an orphanage for kittens, he wouldn’t have a chance at the presidency in 2020. He should just forget that and use his position as a Senator to protest Trump’s presidency as much as possible.
He’s not popular here.
He doesn’t need to be. If he gets just 5 or 10 percent of a state like Arizona, it could easily turn blue.
