Jeopardy! 2022-23

It should be noted that ‘chukker’ was used in the Jeopardy clue, which prompted this entire discussion.

i am sooooo jealous! i’ve seen pictures of it. how is it in person? does anyone fall off?

Did anyone notice in the Teen Tournament Final, part 1 (Wed) that right before the game started, there was a shot of the contestants with their final scores from that day displayed? That is one weird error.

You’re right. I didn’t realize what it was at the time, but they edited in a quick shot from the end of FJ during the contestant introduction. Weird.

Did you catch the good news Mayim mentioned at the end of last night’s game?

KEN’S BACK STARTING TONIGHT!

Alright! Playing in the Archives isn’t quite the same thing :slightly_smiling_face:

The little known son, Pinto Ford :slightly_smiling_face:

It didn’t spoil it for me, because it was only on screen for about two seconds, and my first thought was that the numbers were their FJ scores in their semifinals. No, that doesn’t make sense, but it was over in two seconds with no reference to it. So there was no time to absorb what it meant, and the game went on.

Edsel’s a bad enough name, I’d take Pinto any day.

“I told ya - call me Bronco!”

Not that I’ve seen or heard of, but one year in the annual tournament it had been very rainy, and one elephant slipped and fell in the mud with its mahout and player on board. No one was hurt. That was when they moved the tournament from the upper coast to the North but kept it the same time of year, which is the rainy season up there. They moved it back down after a couple of years, where it was much dryer that time of year.

I’ll miss Mayim, but at least the pathetic Mayim-whining will abate for a while.

Wasn’t the original plan that she would host special tournaments while Ken Jennings would host regular games? I think they’re being consistent with that.

Yes, that’s what they said last summer, but it wasn’t clear (until now) that they were sticking with that plan.

BTW, I thought it slightly weird that the high school reunion tournament lasted fourteen games, when their traditional tournament format lasted ten episodes, which neatly took two weeks of shows.

I think Mayim mentioned that they included 27 of the 30 teen tournament players, and that they were going to bring the other three back sometime. So they couldn’t or didn’t want to limit the reunion tournament to 15 quarter-finalists, as they do with the other tournaments. Why? I dunno.

Well, if they had gotten all thirty teen tournament players, the tournament would have lasted exactly fifteen episodes or three weeks. So perhaps that was the intention.

No message.

I’m not sure I see how that would work out mathematically, with the quarter-final > semi-final > final structure. The regular tourmanents start with 15, and get to 9 semifinalists by adding 4 wildcard slots to the five winners, and then 3 finalists. This one started with 27 > 9 > 3.

Start with thirty and you drop to ten semifinalists, then what? Throw out the lowest scoring one?

uff da! that must have made the ground shake. glad to hear elephant and humans were okay. lots of treats all around for them.

Oddly enough–as Ken commented–several of today’s categories seemed to be direct references to Mayim.

There must be a story there…

It’s so nice to watch a competent host again! No more awkward pauses before ruling yes or no.
