Jeopardy! 2022-23

Going into FJ, Suresh had $14,195, while one of the challengers had $26,400. Obviously the challenger missed, allowing Suresh to win the game.

BTW, the FJ category was Women in Mythology. The final clue read:

The name of this woman, the product of an incestuous union, means “against birth.”

The correct response was Antigone.

I had absolutely no clue.

Someone did answer “Black Beauty”. But the correct answer was “The Black Stallion” - which the clue listed as “maybe the second-best known horse tale with black in the title”.

I guessed Antigone, thinking gonad. But I wasn’t 100% sure. A number of the misses surprised me, but of course the show can be pretty random.

I guessed Antigone, mainly because it was the only name I could think of that started with “Anti” (figured it wasn’t Anti Em  )

Brian

Yeah, that’s what I meant! I was surprised nobody knew “The Black Stallion”.

mmm

Born Again.

I wouldn’t say you have to have any religious observance, Bible knowledge, or identify as Christian to have heard the phrase “born again” in the context of Christianity.

“Black Beauty” was not the correct response to any of the clues. It was given as incorrect responses to two different clues.

Maybe they were too young to heard of Seattle Slew – but triple crown? Washington State? OK not SUPER obvious, but I figured it out.
I also knew “chrysanthemum” is connected to the Japanese throne.

Brian

Everyone knows it’s “Harold”. As in “Our father, which art in heaven, Harold be thy name.”

(I was surprised that nobody knew that, too)

Uh, yeah, check two posts above yours.

mmm

You asked to fill in a phrase in a Bible verse, not to have just heard the term “born again.” Not sure why you are being so difficult in this. The beginning of the Lord’s Prayer is way way way more well known that the other verse you quoted.

I counted 13 triple stumpers in tonight’s show (8 in the first round, 4 in DJ, FJ. I got 6 of them right.

(My FJ guess was Ilya Kuryakin but I realized he debuted earlier.)

Me, too! Despite my user name, Chekov did not even occur to me.

Make that three of us. I was convinced it was Ilya, and I wondered if the judges would accept only the first name.

This quote seems appropriate considering Suresh went out on a Star Trek FJ clue.

After having recently finished watching the entire run of Star Trek:TOS, I’m ashamed I didn’t come up with Chekov.
I had no response. I was trying to think of lead characters, but that’s no excuse.

Four of us now.

Yeah, me too. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. ran from 1964 - 1968

I had yesterday’s Final Jeopardy spoiled. I went to the J-Archive site to look for something, and the front page already had that day’s FJ clue visible, except I didn’t realize it was for the show that would be on that evening. I read the clue and said “who is Checkov?”

So I did get it correct, but not under game conditions.

And under game conditions, you wouldn’t have been penalized for that misspelling.
