Jeopardy! 2022-23

I’m a bit surprised they’re planning to go ahead with next season’s taping at all. And disappointed.

I thought the book was the standard for all kinds of games. For instance, they have the rules for a game called Yachts, which happens to be the basis of the game Yahtzee. I used the book a lot when I was making casino-style computer games, to make sure I had the correct rules for poker, craps, roulette, etc.

So I’m reading that they’re going to delay the Tournament of Champions until the strike is settled but that the regular shows are going to use clues already written by the WGA writing staff. (“Our current plan is to go into a holding pattern of sorts, pushing back the S39 postseason to first produce original episodes featuring the best of our WGA written material.”)

And the season is done: sad emoji :frowning: . They didn’t even show who the champion would be facing once the new season starts.

I was incredibly disappointed in myself for missing today’s FJ.

Clue: Theories on the origin of this, a style of journalism, include Cajun slang for unhinged jazz & Boston slang for a person on a bender.

Answer: What is gonzo?

I thought it was easy enough, but I am a fan of the original proponent.

I got it, but I wasn’t 100% sure it was right.

I also got the FJ, with about 70% confidence.

Jennings has really grown into his role as host and I sure hope we get (only) him in the future.

mmm

It’s a useless descriptor, becasue as far as I know there’s only the one. And it is a single word: Gonzojournalisthuntersthompson I’ve never heard him referred to in any other way.

Was pulling for Sharon but she couldn’t get the FJ. Too bad, she seemed quirky and rough around the edges but ultimately really knew her stuff.

You and me both. Only one journalist has been described as such; how he got that moniker is something I’ve never considered.

Back in the 70s I had a cat named Gonzo. Crazy, he was.

Me too.

As far as I know, there are only 2 “styles” of journalism: yellow and gonzo.

I you don’t read the news you are uninformed. If you do read the news you are misinformed.

— Mark Twain

Isn’t Tom Wolfe credited with creating “new journalism?”

I guessed Gonzo, but wasn’t sure because I’d never heard it used to describe either jazz or going on a bender.

Tuesday’s FJ was recycled from not that long ago. I remember it because, against all odds, I got it.

Well, it was a repeat of the Second Chance Tournament from last fall.

I don’t remember the last time as being in a tournament of any kind.

Correct. According to The Jeopardy Fan, yesterday’s (8/1) episode was originally aired on 10/18/22.

Thanks! I don’t remember that tournament at all.
