Jeopardy discussion

Probably true. Trebek was a braggart and didn’t like competition.

Actually, 30 Rock did an excellent job of explaining it in 20 seconds.

So to tonight, when Mayim announced that the FJ category was “1972,” before they went to the final break, I said to my wife (ask her if you don’t believe me): Nixon.

I was right.

My guess was Gordon Liddy. It sounded like something he might have said to Nixon.

She had her creepy little Elvis impersonation all queued.

I guessed that it would have something to do with Watergate. When the clue came up, I just heard Nixon’s voice saying it. Surprised only one of the three got it.

Throughout the game, I kept thinking that Megan reminded me of some actress, but couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Then it hit me: Hilary Swank.

Agreed, I thought it had to be Nixon.

Interesting bet by Megan. I understand why she bet that amount, but she wins only if she gets it right and Eric misses. That being the case, why not bet it all?

But you did not phrase it in the form of a question.

Obviously, the clue was about Watergate. But I totally overthought it, thinking “Nixon” was way too easy. Like the two male players, I figured the quote was something somebody said to Nixon, so I came up with “Haldeman” and “Dean.”

I felt like an idiot when it turned out to be Nixon.

I think we must share a brain! I picked Dean. To cut myself a break, I was only 13 when Watergate was news. Though I just finished watching Gaslit, and still missed it!

I was hoping it was a music question! I know a lot of 1972 music.

Yeah, sometimes an answer seems so obvious, you’ll think “That’s too easy. It’s got to be some kind of trick question.”

Most of the time, it’s not a trick question. Go with the obvious answer. If they ask about an airport in London, it’s gonna be Heathrow, not Gatwick.

I guessed John Dean because Nixon seemed to easy and obvious.

Thank you.

I guessed Nixon only due to the date as I was still learning to walk and use the potty at that time and don’t remember any other names from Watergate.

My first thought was Nixon, but then that seemed too easy, and it sounded like something G. Gordon Liddy would say. Re-reading the line “don’t lie to them to the extent” pinged something in my memory and I knew it was the ‘smoking gun’, so it had to be RMN himself.

Then again, the contestants are so young! Stuff that’s obvious to me because I lived thru it is ancient history to many of them. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve yelled “How can you not know that??”

Kids these days…

And then a pop music question comes up and us old farts don’t even know who the artist is…

The other day, I couldn’t believe than none of the contestants knew what SPCA stood for. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Well, yeah, there is that. Or current actors, or current movies… Now get off my lawn!!!

It seems like just yesterday that the Visigoths were driving the Vandals from the Iberian peninsula.
