What are soybeans? (WAG)

At first I thought corn, but then realized that’s a native species! I said soybeans before the think music stopped.

And these younguns these days! They should be forced to read To Kill a Mockingbird!

I said rice because Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco treat!

Rice was my first thought, but it’s not really big in the midwest.

Being from Indiana helped. Every farm that I ever drive past, if it’s not growing corn, is growing soybeans.

Even with the clue “Halicarnassus,” remembering the mausoleum was an admirable recall of useless information.

Not a romantic, are you?

How the hell did none of them know that the Bronx is a NYC borough? They already asked about the other four, clearly the Bronx is the only one left. You didn’t even have to actually know the park they were asking about.

I’m glad the returning champ was wrong, because that many Zorro movies would be really tedious.

FJ was one of those trivia tidbits you either know or you don’t. Some boredom-browsings from the Guinness Book of World Records get adopted by a brain cell, some don’t; like puppies.

Speaking for myself - why would I need to know that about NYC? I don’t live there, I visited there in 1965 when I was 11 so any first-hand knowledge is minimal, and while I’ve heard of the various boroughs, I’ve also heard about various counties in various states, but I certainly don’t know all the specifics.

This isn’t a jab at you, but rather my personal peeve that New Yorkers seem to think the whole world knows their whole world. Sorry - don’t mean to hijack. I’ll take my stabby self elsewhere and cool down…

I agree that non-NYers shouldn’t be expected to know that The Bronx is one of the boroughs of NYC. But I’m nevertheless surprised that NOT ONE of the three got it.

I got the Bronx, no problem. It was the only NYC borough that hadn’t been mentioned. Five clues, five boroughs–no problem.

Now, Toronto boroughs–those would have been a problem.

I’ve never been to New York at all. Never even been in the state, let alone the city. I can name all five boroughs. I always thought that was pretty common knowledge, even if you’re not a New Yorker.

Especially if you’re going to be on a trivia show.

I suppose this one is a little more obscure, but I was a bit surprised that none of them figured out that Wiener = Vienna.

You know the feeling when you know the answer to a triple-stumper? This was just the opposite. I had no clue about soybeans but apparently I’m the only one.

Exactly – I knew it was Sherlock Holmes due to some long-ago casual reading of the GBWR that stuck, taking up a brain cell that could have been put to more useful service.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could selectively purge some memories taking up useful storage space? Like my phone number when I was a kid. I don’t need that info anymore, dammit!

Those unforgettable numbers make good passwords.

I woke up this morning singing the theme song to “Mr. Ed”. All 3 verses. I might have found a cure for cancer if those brain cells were available.

Uncle Martin in MFM could do that. Then something went wrong. Hilarity ensued.

The NYC boroughs is one of those things you can pick up by osmosis. Manhattan is easy of course. "The Bronx is up… ", Coming to America went to Queens to search for a queen, there’s always one guy in WWII movies from Brooklyn. And if someone else gets Staten Island, you’re covered.

JAQ: I never been to NYC, but I been to Oklahoma (Oklahoma, and Arizona, what does it matter?)

And he can do this all day!
