I thought of the song, but realized I didn’t actually know its exact title. If I’d been the show, it would have been a crapshoot as to whether I’d have guessed the title correctly (or written something close enough that they’d have accepted it.)
I thought of the correct song, and others, then guessed Graceland. Though wrong, it was much closer than the guesses by contestants.
Trivia I enjoy sharing: that sensational horns riff throughout the song isn’t horns- it’s Adrian Belew playing a guitar synthesizer.
Edit: and I knew the answer instantly. I do think people younger than me would have been at a disadvantage.
I said “Graceland” and then when the answer was revealed I said “Doh!”
mmm
I had no guess. Only the sounds of silence.
To all of us (including my wife & me) who guessed Graceland, we can take a smidgen of consolation that both songs were on the same album.
Same here: I had no idea if the official title was “Call Me Al” or “You Can Call Me Al.”
::shakes fist at::
Watched a recent rerun a couple weeks ago. The category was something like “The Leader in Between.” The answer was Cleveland and Cleveland, and the contestant said, “Who is Harrison?” without being required to specify which President Harrison. I don’t really mind that.
It’s not yet official but Variety reports that Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik will be the joint permanent hosts.
Boo! Make a decision already. Are there numbers for who draws the bigger audience?
Aren’t there enough divisive issues that we need one more? Red/blue, gay/straight, pro-life/pro-choice, Ken/Maya?
I got Stevie Nicks – but it was a lucky guess. For the lit FJ I figured it was one of the Winne the Pooh characters but I did not remember Eeyore (Piglet? Tigger? Kanga?..)
Brian
I thought Eeyore almost immediately, as it sounds like a donkey’s bray.
I got Stevie Nicks, blew it on the Eeyore question. But my husband and I both got the triple-stumper Highlander!
My wife got Stevie right away. I went with Tina Turner.
Maya should be satisfied that she’s got that shitty sit-com and leave Jeopardy alone.
Mayim. Not Maya. I said Tigger even though it sounds nothing like roar.
On the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame clue, I thought of Stevie Nicks, but wasn’t sure. Had I been on the show, I probably would have guessed Janis Joplin, given how idolized she is by rock critics, but I see Big Brother and the Holding Company are not Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees.
On the Literary Animals clue, I couldn’t even come up with a guess, though in retrospect it’s obvious. I drew a total blank trying to think of children’s book characters that might have been introduced in 1926. Had I been on the show, I wouldn’t have even written down a response.
Yeah, and I had bet all my imaginary money, too.
The formal, official announcement is here. From the executive producer, “I write today with the exciting news that we have closed and signed deals with Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings to be the hosts of Jeopardy! moving forward.”
