And who doesn’t know Gordon Lightfoot? Triple stumper.
I guess it’s understandable for people who played against each other months or years ago–or at least have been in touch together on social media on the basis of being champions–though some of them may not find it natural.
But if this becomes The Thing To Do once the show gets back to featuring new contestants, we’ll be in for some VERY awkward moments.
I wouldn’t say I am old school. But I kind of preferred it when people guessed at the final answer and did not make human pyramids with their new found friends.
Or at least say “who are two people who have never been in my kitchen?”
I agree, the shout outs are getting out of control.
Yeah, I appeared slightly less dumb at that moment.
Holy crap, Amy Schneider needed a miraculous combination of events … and got it.
She is amazing.
I find it easy to get a big head when I know the answer to a triple stumper (“Cat People”, in this case).
Then I remember that I had no clue about the 3 or 4 previous answers that they breezed through.
mmm
Olde Farte here.
I think the thing that bugs me more than the shout outs and the hugging, is the expectation that everyone has some huge social media presence just because of Jeopardy!, and that they’re all out there posting and making public appearances. And that they all should know each other, and be recognized, like celebs at a Hollywood party.
If I were even on the show, I’d just want to go back to my regular life afterwards. I’m not going on J! to promote my Brand, I just want to play the game. (and win! of course)
Kids these days…
I think a good part of the genesis of these complaints - most of which I agree with, by the way - is that we are seeing tournament after tournament. The contestants get to know each other and relationships develop.
I can’t wait until we see three strangers whom we have never before seen compete.
mmm
Seeing the contestants congratulate each other after FJ strikes me as a good thing; I always wondered why it didn’t happen earlier. In the Before Times, all 3 would just stare straight ahead with one looking happy. Occasionally, a nod.
That’s because most Jeopardy! contestants are hopeless nerds incapable of normal human interaction.
Regardless, Dewey_Finn, we finally get 3 new nerds tomorrow - all the tournament shenanigans are over & regular Jeopardy returns!
I’m looking forward to that. I’ve enjoyed the tournaments, and I understand why they had them, but it will be nice to get back to just plain ordinary games.
I am more excited than I ever would have thought I’d be about the return of regular Jeopardy.
mmm
I’m glad that the drought is finally over.
And the longest champion (in time length) was defeated. I think they said he’d been waiting since July 2023.
Am I correct in assuming that the elapsed time between the clue being read out and the players can press their buzzers - and the “beeps” after an unanswered clue - is shorter than the elapsed time until the “beeps” after a contestant buzzes in and fails to answer in time?
If so - were they ever equal in time? Or have the times been adjusted over the years to speed up (or slow down) the game?
And the winner didn’t even understand the question!
Even with four digit scores and clueless contestants, I still prefer this over the unceasing hell of tournaments.
It is a relief to again see some unfamiliar faces.
