I also got this one in about 2 seconds. I was astonished that 2 contestants got the right author but the wrong story. I am more generous to Mattea because they are Canadian.
That surprised me, too, given the wording of the clue. But then that’s part of the fun of Jeopardy Masters: for most of the show you sit there in awe of the players’ level of knowledge and speed, but then they all fail to get something that you figure out easily.
I didn’t see Jeopardy Masters last night; does anyone have the clue?
The last Jeopardy Masters game was Wednesday, May 15. (No game last night.)
Whatever night it was, I didn’t see it.
Final Jeopardy category: Short Stories
Final Jeopardy! clue: “Down–steadily down it crept… downward with its lateral velocity. To the right–to the left” is in this 1842 tale
The suspenseful tone of the quote and the year immediately made me think of Poe, and I did come up with The Pit and the Pendulum, but not in time to have written it for a FJ question.
I immediately knew Princip, and Gavrilo came to me a second later. I do get Charles Guiteau and Leon Czolgosz mixed up a lot though.
Me, too. I have to think “Guiteau goes with Garfield,” every time.
(I didn’t remember Princip’s name, though like others I did think ‘it’s got to be the assassin of FF.’)
And then last night I got the FJ for the second Masters game when they all missed it!
Knowing the musical Assassins also helps!
I’ve got to see that sometime.
YOUR FIRST CONCERT
I was there in 2007 when this original lead singer for Van Halen reunited with the band for a concert tour
“Who is Sam Kinison?”
“Who is Vedder?”
“Who is Eddie Van Halen?”
Triple Stumper
Did they play California Girls at the concert?
This one got me, too. Vedder and Van Halen I could see, but Sam Kinnison?
I miss the days when Sam Kinnison fronted Van Halen. That really was their best stuff!
“Jump! Go ahead and JUUUUUUUUUUUMP JUUUUUUUUUMP you bastard!”
My wife reads the Jeopardy FB page, and complained they were all upset at four-time champ Amar Kakirde. What, was he not white enough? Gawd I hate people. Reason number 1 why I’ll never be on Jeopardy! isn’t because I don’t think I’m smart enough, but because of that.
So in this strike-shortened season, are there enough five-time winners to fill out the Tournament of Champions? I think the season ends in about two months.
I thought five time winners got in automatically, but other winners were eligible too.
Correct.
The Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions is a special tournament that features up to 27 players (21 in 2022, 15 players in two weeks prior to 2022) who won at least 5 games or close to winning 5 games in a row, starting in 1985.
