Jeopardy! Season 40

Yeah, I don’t really get it. Aren’t there enough new smart people to populate the show?

mmm

I admit, we really only watch for the clues and questions. I don’t even remember ever seeing before probably 95% of the people in the tournament. Even so, can’t we just go back to regular games?

IIRC, the Writer’s strike was the main reason 4delaying new games, the producers just re-used some questions from old shows or used ones they had in back-up supply. Does anyone know if they are into fresh material yet? IDK…but, now that I think about it, how the hell did they do a TOC? Can’t imagine they didn’t have fresh material for that big event. Any info from my esteemed Jeopardites would be appreciated (and, no , I couldn’t come up w/a better nickname for us off the the top of my head  !)

Jeopraved individuals?

I’ll admit to being slightly disappointed that Yogesh Raut won the ToC. Ben and Troy seemed more likeable.

And then when the new tournament started, I thought at first we were in reruns, until one of the clues was about something happening in February 2024.

I’ve heard this too. What I have not heard is an explanation as to why the “back-up” clues could not be used in non-tournament Jeopardy.

mmm

Yeah, Yogesh was kind of a dick. Some of his jokes were clearly meant to be digs against Jeopardy itself.

Ken announced that the most recent game was the show’s 9000th. But yet, he seems to think J! life began with Trebek.

Why do I have the feeling that, were George Lucas running the show, the scene in Airplane II would be “digitally corrected” to have Trebek instead of Art Fleming?

I just love it when Johnny Gilbert sings the hits! No doubt the Violent Femmes are secure in their day jobs.

Yogesh was less annoying than before. But less charismatic than many of his opponents. However, the winner should be the one with the highest score.

Have there been some recent shows where going into Finals the leaders score was twice another contestants? Such a leader might bet zero. Or make a bigger bet to increase their possible winnings. But why would they bet one dollar?

That is Tournament strategy. The winner doesn’t get the actual amount. Instead they advance to the next level. (Second and third place get fixed amounts, just like in a regular game.)

With the ongoing success of the show, this is the thing I think they should change. All contestants should gt the actual dollar amount on their screens. It would make runaways games have more interesting FJs. They can afford it.

My mother suggested that (for regular Jeopardy! games not tournaments), based on that being the way things work on Wheel of Fortune. I think when I mentioned it here, someone suggested that some contestants would stop once they hit their target amount.

BTW, if you like Jeopardy!, you might be interested in watching this (roughly 7.5 minute) segment from CBS Sunday Morning last week. It’s a profile of Ken Jennings.

The winner does get the amount on screen, just not in the tournaments.

And last night’s game had Amy Schnieder (yea) and (gag) Austin Rogers, and…someone else.

So glad that wanker Rogers lost. At least I enjoyed one thing about the invitational.

I guessed Scarface for finals without much enthusiasm and was quite surprised it was the correct answer.

Always a pleasure to see Amy. So smart.

I just can’t see this scar in any photo, so he’s not filed under that in my brain. I missed it.

When I hear “scarface”, I think Tony Montana and his leetle freend.

I wonder if they’d have ruled that correct with just the nickname, rather than “who is Al Capone?”

I thought FJ was incredibly easy and was shocked they all missed it. “Scarface” as a nickname by default equals Al Capone. I kept trying to figure out if I was missing something and it wasn’t Capone because surely it wouldn’t be that obvious.

The clue didn’t say “Scarface”. According to j-archive, it was:

So you had to make the connection from battle injury, to “Scarface”, to Al Capone. I got it right, but I wouldn’t say it was a gimme.
