Jeopardy: That's not Gneiss

I’m a Jeopardy junky, and can usually do pretty well playing at home.

But I was completely taken by surprise on Friday by the category in DJ: “That’s not Gneiss”. I had never heard of that word, Gneiss, and had no idea how the contestants were getting the questions. Obviously, from the questions, it had something to do with rocks, but I had to look it up.

I’ve been stumped by many an answer in Jeopardy over the years, but never by a category. Anyone else?

Several geology classes in college, so this one didn’t bother me at all. Except for the pun - that was schisty.

I thought it was a clastic!

You can’t take these things for granite or you’ll end up at a loess for words.

So as Holmes would put it: It was sedimentary.

Fighting igneous since 1973, it’s taking longer than we thought.

I felsic reading these jokes. Just sayin’.

I’m marbling at the wit being demonstrated here.

Never cared for Gneiss after Peter Gabriel left, but Igneous rocks.

You pebble will do anything for a pun.

It’s not like we take a sense of humor for granite.

BZZZZT. Already taken.

:smack::smack:

That’s ok. It’s not your fault.

Ooooh, block fault! In your facies, runnerpat!

Whose fault is it that we’re carrying on in this vein?

It’s really no trouble atoll.

All this clever wordplay is making me feel like a moraine. (It’s this sort of rift makes me feel like graben my mantle and splitting.) (Tuff schist for me, I guess.)

I shale not be tempted to participate in this travertine of a thread, but ask for a clean slate.

Just chalk it up to experience.
