I really liked that ending. “Welcome to New Bern” indeed.
Another very interesting episode. Looking forward to seeing how they end the season. Wonder who will take the blame for Goetz? From the preview clip it seems to be coming back Jericho’s way instead of New Bern.
I loved this episode. My favorite part was when the Ravenwood goons went to pick up Hawkins. I just hope the series finale (probably and unfortunately) lives up to my expectations.
Good stuff–a blend of action and pathos.
Great episode. Glad they didn’t wimp out and let Stanley “do the right thing” in the end. His scene in the morgue was heartwrenching. I’m really starting to feel for these characters.
What’s the prognosis for another season? RikWriter, you seem skeptical. Have you heard something?
No, just haven’t heard anything encouraging.
According to TV by the Numbers, last night’s episode didn’t do too well. It had 5.87 million viewers and a 1.9/5 in the 18-49 demographic. I think all those crummy episodes in the first season did it in. The improvement in quality has come too late to save it from cancellation again. I do hope I’m wrong.
It was good seeing Shoshanna Stern in one final episode, even as a corpse, so Stanley (and us) could give her a respectful good-bye. Her character of Bonnie was one of the best in recent years, as Stern herself has a hearing impairment, like the character she played. Here’s hoping she won’t be off TV for long.
Oh yes, that was outstanding.
I was laughing at the TV. “You guys are so dead!”
The show is so much better than the first season.
I was a little confused at the end though. MAJ Beck is going to be really pissed about Goetz, and he’s already been targeting New Bern. Isn’t this just going to piss him off worse?
It was a move that solved both town’s purposes (or, looking at the previews for next week, so they thought). New Bern taking the body takes the heat off Jericho, and gives New Bern dude something to take back in lieu of killing Heather.
Everyone is lucky with Stanley offing the Ravenwood guy. Jake can say he and his men had nothing to do with it. The New Bern people can say the same thing. The Major will not be able to figure it out with 100% certainty so can’t come down on either town. Seems win win to me.
I don’t know if I can HANDLE the stress of another season.
My girlfriend and I kind of got into it late. I saw a few episodes and the finale of season 1, but we didn’t really get into it until Universal HD had an 8 episode HD marathon on rainy Saturday.
I don’t know if it could maintain a story line for another season. It seems to me that you would have either a never ending conspiracy or a conspiracy of the week to keep the pot going lest it become a soap opera or First Wave.
the one thing I find somewhat difficult to believe is that Ravenwood wouldn’t have Goetz arrested, and not just fired.
I agree, but Ravenwood’s punishments for embezzlement are harsh, and Mimi’s friend must have told them everything, and Ravenwood knew leaving him without support was probably worse than sticking him in prison. They were right, and their hands are clean.
I’m watching both seasons at the same time (scifi is showing season 1) and I haven’t gotten to most of the New Bern stuff yet. But is it the next town over? If so, dangling the body above the welcome sign is putting him on the townline, isn’t it? Watching the episode I thought that was the point of putting him there to be found - neither town/both towns take (full) blame by him being on their property.
I kind of found it a bit boring and ended up fast forwarding through that bit.
Loved the rest though
Being from a nearby rural state, I suspect that there is quite a bit of distance between the boundaries of the town; hanging the body would give responsibility to New Bern. I wondered if they wouldn’t try to blame Hallib…er, Ravenwood for his death.
Really? I almost choked up a bit, especially when he started signing.
Last season I used to FF through all the Stanley/Mimi parts.
Oh, nasty! You almost said the secret word and now the guys in black sweaters will be out to take a meeting with you.
