Jericho 3/18

Maj. Beck goes to extremes; Hawkins is told to transport the bomb.

There you are.

Another Jericho thread goes down with a whimper. I just watched the show so I’m posting a little late.

They’re certainly taking things in a new direction. I get the sense that this story was meant to play out over an entire season, but they’re trying to tell the whole story in the 7 episodes they have available. Only one left - it may be a season finale, but it’s more likely a series finale.

I can’t really say anyone is to blame for the demise of the show other than the creators, though. I was really excited when I heard the premise - but the first half of the first season couldn’t have been much more dissapointing. I kept watching in the hopes that it’d start living up to its premise, and it did start to get significantly better - but I’m not surprised given how long it took that other people weren’t willing to stick around.

Combine the second half of the first season and this season, and you have an interesting, watchable show. It’s too bad they couldn’t start out that way, or I bet the show would have pretty decent ratings still.
Beck’s an interesting character. They really set him up as competant and sympathetic. Now he’s really going over the edge and making poor decisions that are bound to lead to conflict, but he reached his “Well, I tried to be reasonable, but…” moment.

The Mr. Smith plotline is interesting and I’m not sure exactly where they’re going with it. I’m not sure that nuking Cheyenne is something that Hawkins would really be all that motivated to stop.

The government/corporate ties thing is a little heavy handed, but it’s good to see a show willing to portray government in an unflattering light.

There was a storm and my digital signals didn’t do well. I got the gist of it, though, and will watch on the web when I have the bandwidth.
Beck seems to be an ass to me. One would think he would have stayed loyal to the US Army rather than this “AS” government.

Of course, he could turn out to be the “Good Bad Guy”.

Just what is Smith hoping to accomplish by nuking Cheyenne, anyway? I was pretty tired that night and nodding off now and then, so maybe that’s my excuse–this time.

He said that the government/J&R interrelations were a disease, and the bombing and consolidation into Cheyenne has concentrated them all into one place, where they can be wiped clean.

Ah. Well, that’s certainly…efficient.
