TornaDope was great (once I found it). I must say, though, that Campfire-Roasted Goat au Naturel is really not all that yummy. And trying to cook in the dark doesn’t help. However, if you take the leftovers home and marinate them in olive oil and garlic and grill them with onions when it’s light out, goat is really quite tasty. Ostrich, though, pretty much yummy right out of the pan.
I’m thinkin’ not dearheart. I live in Washington remember? We’re either whiter than a fish’s belly or rusty from the rain. You DID see the pictures of me in Swampfest, right?
 Wow! To their faces?! Girl, that would take some er…well, you know. There is no way on God’s green earth I could get away with something like that where I work. 'Course, I’m pretty lucky and I like my current boss. My former team leader on the other hand, well let’s just say I was less than professional with him on more occasions than I care to count. I’m not proud of the things I said to him, but by God, he was worthless and I let him know it. I’m so glad I don’t work for him anymore.
Glad you liked the stinky stuff Swampy.
It was great getting to finally meet you.
We’ve been very busy. Saturday the shop is open, so our weekend is Sunday and Monday. Yesterday we drove up I-5 again to Tacoma, Federal Way actually, for old friend’s 60th birthday. Had a great time visiting her and the kids and meeting some of her friends from the red hat society (I think that’s what it’s called). Left there that afternoon and drove to the beach. Our electric bill at the cabin was unusually high last time and we thought we’d left the heat on or something. Spent Sun. night there. Left there this morning and drove home ‘cause Wife had a bunch of real estate stuff to do today. Since we got home I’ve been to the shop, gone to the store, gone back to the shop to use the computer there to try to solve a problem at former employers’ work, mowed the back yard, gone to 8 yr-old granddaughter’s birthday party, cooked a pizza and ate half of it, and now I’m here and it’s 10pm. But you guys have all gone home for the night.
BTW, it has come to my attention that, in my feeble attempts to inject a little levity into my posts some of my comments vis-a-vis Wifey may have led some people to believe she’s something other than the sweet, kind, gentle being she is.
For this I apologize, as I have already apologized to Wifey. It is a fact of life that two people, no matter how compatable, living in close proximity, will inevitably have some small moments of friction. On occasion I may have exaggerated some of these areas of friction for comic effect. One should not attach any more signifigance to these instances than to any other good natured ribbing.
Very tired, gonna go watch CSI now. I’ll check in from the shop sometime tomorrow.
Having spent a Saturday afternoon/evening and a good portion of a Sunday Morning/Afternoon with you and DenMum, I know how sweet and loverly she is Bumba. Nothing you can say will ever make me think otherwise. So There! It was great meeting you and the sweet and loverly DenMum too. And Taters and Mr. Taters. And all the Seattle and Seattle area Dopers. I was lookin’ over my swampfest placard and all the stuff written on the back of it last night. I got all smiley. I think ACBG was a little jealous of the obvious good time we had when I showed it to him as well as the pictures. Maybe he’s beginning to see that puters are indeed a good thing. I smell all grapefruity/oatmealy this morning. I even let ol’ you know who use it. I’m not being all pushy or anything but somebody needs to get a “Soapy Bear” website up and running soon.
I’m gonna lay around in my pool all weekend sipping on libations. A few friends are coming over on Saturday afternoon for the official opening of “Club Swampy.” When I haul all the pool chairs and stuff out the pool becomes “Club Swampy.” ACBG’s comment on all this was : “Well day-umn, I forgot just how much s**t you have stored in that building.” I don’t think he’s all that excited about helping me drag stuff out Friday evening. Anyways, we’re gonna grill burgers and folks are bringing over other stuff like tater salad and baked beans and munchies and extra libations, so it should be fun. Sunday and Monday I intend for it to be just ACBG and me lounging around. And other stuff.
Today is Management Team Meeting. Should be easy cause not a whole lot to carry on about right now. Then, this afternoon, I get to torture…err… test two people. I have six torturing…err… testing sessions to do this week. Feel the joy!
I knew I forgot something! Ashes[sup]2[/sup], it is now one of my goals in life to call at least one person a greasy weasel. Since I plan to spend a large part of a three day weekend libating around and in the pool, I think it shall be said a lot. I can’t wait!
Hmmmmm, greasy weasels, ashes? Did I say  ? Do said weasels speak english? If not, there’s still time to convince them this is a compliment of the highest order…or not.
My holiday weekend is pretty much planned out, too. We’ll be movin’ the Grumpuses into closer assisted living facility. They HAVE hired a moving company to move the bigger pieces, but it’s the boxing and packing stuff that needs doin’. Oh, yeah, and somebody’s gonna have to catch the cat. Last time Nurse Debbie[sup]TM[/sup] did a pretty fair imitation of the Croc Hunter tryin’ to get her boxed up, complete with some might fierce growlin’ and spittin’.
I hope I can somehow squeeze in a haircut and the library. The haircut better come first cause my bangs are so long that pretty soon they’re gonna preclude any book readin’.
bumba, I don’t recall you bein’ snarky about your lovely wifey, but it’s real nice of you to be considerate of her feelings. Mr. Anachi and I often trade snipes. We have that kinda relationship, too. It just means you know and trust each other. We know you’d never say anything truly hurtful.
bob, anything we can do to help with your “but” problem?
I think the term you’re looking for is “sheep fries”.
That’s real lasagna. My Mom has a recipe that much easier. And still, pretty good.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 lb. hamburger
1 large jar spaghetti sauce (we usually use Prego)
“some” lasagna noodles (less than a box)
“some” cottage cheese (small curd)
1 cup swiss cheese (grated)
1 cup mozzarella cheese (grated)
(or just 2 cups mozzarella, or mozzarella and Monterey Jack cheese or whatever you feel like and have on hand at the time)
“some” parmesan (shake cheese) cheese
(This is a recipe that varies batch by batch. Use however much of things are you think is right.)
Brown that hamburger. As it turns out, you could substitute ground ostrich meat if you want an exotic lasagna.
Mix the jar of sauce and the meat together in a big bowl. If you like really saucy lasagna, you can get the great big jar of Prego.
Mix the swiss and mozzerella cheeses together
Layer the stuff in your lasagna pan. I think it’s 8 x 16. (Is that a common pan size? 9 x 13? We have two smaller 8 x 8 square pans we make it in instead of one big pan. That way, you can eat up the lasagna from one pan and freeze the other. You can freeze the lasagna in the pan before you cook it if you want.) The layers go as so:
*a “sprinkling” of the parmesan cheese
*the other half of the swiss/ mozzerella cheese mixture
*a “layer” of the cottage cheese
*the rest of the sauce/meat mixture
*a layer of (still uncooked) noodles
*a “sprinkling” of the parmesan cheese
*half the swiss/ mozzerella cheese mixture
*a “layer” of the cottage cheese (the more “cottâge fromage” you use, the gooier the lasagna, so use LOTS)
*half the rest of the sauce/meat mixture
*a layer of noodles to cover the sauce (you don’t even cook the noodles first!)
*a layer of sauce just to cover the bottom of the pan
Bake uncovered (the lasagna, but once the hamburger (or ostrich) is browned, you could be uncovered too if you want) for about an hour anna half at 300ºF, or until it looks cooked and the noodles are soft and the cheese is all melty.
I’d love to call my boss a greasy weasle. Because that’s exactly what she is.
No, no, no! I won’t go there! Must…be…nice…
FairyChatMom I shall live vicariously through your garden this year. I haven’t planted a bloomin’ (ha!) thing. I spent lots of hours on my yard at my old house…then I moved! The good thing is, my brother bought the house and his wife keeps the little one during the day, so I’m over there a lot and can view my handiwork. Also good is that my new house is new and came with landscaping, so it can tolerate my lack of gardening for a couple years. At least until little CherryTwig is old enough to ‘help’ me in the yard.
Sigh. I think about your pool, Swampy, and wish I had one of my own to lounge about in. Nobody in my neighborhood has one, so I can’t even mooch. The good thing about my neighborhood is, later this summer my Mom is moving into it! Yes! My mother bought a house up the street from me! I’m so excited!
Before that excitement, though, comes the excitement that is Summer Vacation at the Beach. I’m not sure exactly what ‘excitement’ will entail this year, however, seeing that I’ll be ‘vacationing’ with a nine-month-old baby. Usually, where we go there are these nice tide pools, when the tide is out. Nature provides these handy baby pools for the young 'uns! So I’m hoping for that. The bigger kids can boogie board in the surf 'til their brains fall out. I’m staying on the beach! I’m also excited about showing my husband Charleston; he’s never been before and it’s a beautiful city!
I guess I’m lucky - my boss is of the non-greasy weasel variety. See, you have to ask for these things - it’s a part of the negotiations process.
So, the company I work for is celebrating an anniversary today. Unfortunately, it’s raining, so some celebratin’ will be done indoors. But hey - free food & t-shirts - why should I care where it is?
I have the ultimate lasagna recipe. Go to the store. Buy one of those boxes of Stouffer’s frozen lasagna. Take it home. Take it out of the box. Read the directions on the box on how to cook it. Cook it. Take it out of the oven. Turn the oven off unless you’re gonna toast up some garlic bread first, then turn the oven off. Eat.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Homemade lasagna is good. I got a recipe that is good and takes eight hours. It tastes pretty much like the Stouffer’s stuff.
If you want, while at the store, buy one of those bag salads so you can have your veggies too.
Or, just go out to the good Italian food place for dinner.
I appreciate the help with the lasagne recipes, however, if I were to alter it my husband would accuse me of heresy or something…
I use a mixture of sweet and hot italian sausage, all kinds of cheeses, some red wine (can’t cook without wine), and make the sauce from scratch. I can’t cheat when I make this stuff because I don’t do it very often. They’re all just going to have to do with some BBQ and tater salad and other stuff like that.
Maybe one a weekend where I don’t have to go anywhere I can make the lasagne.
Well, I need to grovel to one of our automation folks for some help with an ad hoc.
I thought I posted yesterday, I meant to. I must have forgotten in my insane jealousy of all the Dopers who were at Tournadope. Of course, I really have no room to complain, since I wouldn’t be caught dead camping, but still. I can only be appeased with pictures.
And since I’m confessing to deadly sins, Amazon.com has lead me down the path of all sorts of temptation (I’m an easy mark) with their alluring Cowboy Bebop box sets (the DVDs and the CDs!! Jerry Orbach in a silver jumpsuit!!), Garbage CDs, Thursday Next novels and Noir soundtracks. That’s, what, covetousness and greed right there. Oh, and sloth; I can have all these things at the click of a button!
Ok, I must try to be good and stay away from Amazon until I’ve made the car payment.
The lasagne sounds good. I don’t mind the Stouffer’s, but I like the vegetarian better than the one with meat; their tomato sauce tastes sweet to me. But they make a mean Mac & Cheese.
Time to wander down and see what the cafeteria is offering for lunch today. It’s so gray and cool maybe I’ll get some soup.
Tournadope sounded like a whole bunch of fun. I love camping…
The sun actually shone in Wyoming this weekens and on Saturday it hit the dizzy heights of 87 (American!) degrees. This was baking hot - we went from snow to heat in what feels like a day. It was my weekend off but no-one was in town for me to go out and get into trouble with so I did nothing really. Mucked out & washed my car and saw Star Wars but other than that it was to hot. I wanna pool like Swampy’s just so that I can stick my prettily painted (I also did that this weekend) toes in when it gets hot.
I have never called my current boss a greasy weasel I did however throw my cell phone at his head. In dispatch. In front of an audience. I was pissed. I was told I throw like a boy. A mean boy.
Naw, the greasy weasels weren’t there, darnit. I might not have added the greasy part if they were, but otherwise I stand by the weasel. So to speak. Tenure is a good thing. **ems ** is my new cell phone slingin’ heroine.
Lasagna is good, but I think I want to make some minestrone. It’s my new favorite soup. Until then I will just have to eat this coq au vin. Which sounds fancy until you realize it’s just the peasant way to use up a tough old bird.
Amazon isn’t on my most favorite list right now, even though I find myself buying from them anyway. Did you know that they’ve started sending their free shipping orders through the post office? UPS at least pretended to try to deliver, but my postal guy just takes the packages on a tour of the city as far as I can tell. Barnes and Noble still uses UPS I think and they’re pretty much the same on book prices, if they’ve got what you’re looking for.
Wintermute, if you figure out how to make your Beautiful Garbage cd work to just play the darned songs, on your computer, please let me know. Darned enhanced cds have me all confuzzled.
This Amazon shipment (iPod Mini is now in the building, but not yet at my desk) was via UPS. So it seems they like to mix it up a bit. Sometimes it’s USPS sometimes UPS. I wonder if it depends on what you order?
You two! Get a room!! (I keed!) Welcome to the MMP, keith. Stick around. That way we can make sure you take good care of taxi. :dubious: (I keed!) Seriously, this IS where the cool kids hang out.
ems, 87 degrees in Wyoming??? In May??? Jeepers, maybe that caldera is heating up afterall.
What burns me is that I bought this CD back when it was first released, but I seem to have lost it. It might have been in the Neon when I totaled it last year, and maybe it just never got out (2004 was a terrible year). Which means I not only have to buy another one, but I have to buy the first one on CD, since I only have it on tape. I don’t remember if I tried to play it on the computer, though, so I’m no help there. FWIW, I do remember liking Garbage 2.0 better.
Saw them in concert opening for Alanis Morissette. I don’t think there was one person in Giant’s stadium who understood a single word Shirley said.
