Jerry Orbach in a Silver Jumpsuit

Oh, did I mention my clearance stuff all came thru? Tomorrow afternoon I have to sit thru a series of briefings, then I get my official green badge! Go me! I went upstairs this morning and picked out my new cubicle - I’ll have a window - at least till I’m done this next phase of training. Once I’m assigned to a team, I expect I’ll be working in the windowless realms. But I’ll enjoy it while I’ve got it.

It’s raining here. I put some eggs on to boil. I was sitting here thinking it was really raining hard. Then I realized it was the eggs boiling, not the rain falling. It’s still raining, but the eggs are done boiling. Gonna make egg salad. Yum!

I just couldn’t get into Beautiful Garbage, which was sad because I love 2.0. I know they have a new CD out (or coming soon) because I saw the video, but I just couldn’t get in to it.

I saw Alanis Morissette years ago when she was touring with Tori Amos.

Susan

Yeppers scout, they sent my vacuum UPS and the books USPS. So how is your iPod? I’m not getting one till they teach them to iron.

So at lunch everybody had fun with the greasy weasels thing. Some even want to call ourselves the greasy weasels. Sort of like last year when a motivational speaker called us toxic. We made ‘toxic!’ buttons for everyone to wear. Is that like your green badge FCM? Does the green badge give you any special super powers (as opposed to your usual super powers of course)?

Ooh Wintermute, don’t you hate when the car eats your stuff? I had some mechanics toss my cd case around and who knows how many cds are missing. Plus there’s all the parking placards that go flying when I drive with the top down. And I agree that Garbage 2.0 was better, Beautiful seemed a bit cold. Mary Prankster isn’t really the same, but you might like her.

Well, it gives me the power to open most of the doors in the building now. Before I was limited to 4 areas. As of tomorrow afternoon, I can roam freely. Not a very impressive power, but it’s something.

I hate it even more when a big ole truck eats my car. You have to picture me sitting on the side of 78E near Cokesbury crying, “I can’t believe I did this. I can’t fucking believe I did this!” Because it was my fault, you see. (On the other hand, it was three days after my grandmother’s funeral, so I was probably a little distracted. 2004 was a terrible year.)

So digging under all the seats for lost CDs was the least of my worries.

I’ll have to check her out; I’m always looking for cool new rocker chicks.

Susan, my sister and I talked about checking that tour out, but we’d seen both Alanis and Tori not all that long before, so we didn’t. How was it? Was it better than seeing them individually?

Open doors with laser beams from your eyes? Cool! Oh hands. Still way better’n anything I can do!

Laser beams coming out of your eyes? Green buttons? What on earth did I miss?

Thanks Ashes it is nice to know I am someones hero! I have deadly aim and have been know to throw a book at someone and give them paper cuts between the eyes! Sometimes the boys around here really really piss me off. I am waaay out numbered and sometimes weapons ahve to be used.

Wow, flying cell phones and greasy weasels all in one thread! Who’d a thunk it? Current management is A-OK, but previous regimes deserved both the greasy weasel label and the flying cell phone treatment. ::Files these as tips for future reference::

Bumba, I just sent you e-mail with my order (finally…).

swampy, I’ve had the list of available flavors since before swampfest and had grapefruit/oatmeal on my short list since the beginning. Based on your endorsement, I’m ordering it…

KeithT, Is that any way to come calling for our dear taxi? A well-mannered young man always rings the doorbell, introduces himself politely, allows himself to be interrogated about his intentions…err…::GT looks around nervously and realizes she’ll be getting into TMI territory momentarily::

Never mind.

Oh, and welcome to the MMP. You’ll be stopping by to chat from time to time, right? Cuz we’re nice. And there are chandeliers here. Well, technically, only one and it’s at FairyChatMom’s. But maybe you’d like to host it for a while? Really, it’s a special present offered only to first-time MMPers.

I’m loafing this evening because I’ve been working weird hours, not getting enough sleep (doing silly things like staying up too late finally watching the last CD in the Firefly CD set), and generally discombobulating myself out of my schedule.

Dinner was a creative assortment of carbs. A few cheese crackers as an appetizer. A bowl of Cheerios with a banana when I decided I should get serious about dinner. Dark chocolate with whole hazelnuts for dessert. And later, because I was still hungry, cheddar-garlic mashed potatoes (from a box - can’t remember if someone here or in some other food thread is responsible for that one…). Breakfast and lunch were strongly skewed in the fresh fruit and veggie direction, so I didn’t feel too guilty.

I’m looking forward to the weekend, which starts on Friday, with a trip to the Cleveland Flower Show. The weather’s supposed to be ugly, but the friends will be fun. Friday night is a pre-wedding dinner thingy for local best friend (not a shower, not a bachelorette party…not sure what to call it).

Well, things are vewwy, vewwy quiet around here. The kids were bickering and Mr. Taters heard enough and roared. So, the boy child is upstairs and the girl child is downstairs with not a peep to be heard from either. Me? I’m kinda walking on eggshells around here because everyone is grumpy. Sheesh…

Dinner tonight will be baked chicken breasteses and rice cooked in chicken broth with various herbs and what-not.

keith, in case I haven’t welcomed you; welcome to the MMP. This is where all the “cool” kids hang out. Least that’s what we keep saying.

I’m tired. Maybe I’ll just settle down with my book tonight. I’m reading Pride of Carthage: A Novel of Hannibal by David Anthony Durham. I started the book quite some time ago, and put it aside because I became so busy. I’m enjoying the book a great deal and figured it was time to pick it up and finish it.

Well, I need to check my chicken breasteses now.

Good morning, MMPers! Thought I’d make this leap to the top of the page so I’d be filled with energy!!! (Let me know if it worked.)

On my page, you’re at the bottom!

Random strange things…I drove to work this morning, and when I was getting out of the car, I found a bottle of Spicy V-8. That wouldn’t be strange, but I don’t drink V-8, and I don’t know where it came from. I’m guessing my mom. I hope it wasn’t some stranger who put a bottle of V-8 in my car. It was in there long enough to get really nasty. V-8 should not have solid chunks, right?

:stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: As a person who drinks spicey V-8 every morning, I can emphatically state that it should NOT have solid chunks!!! In fact, I’m drinking mine now and it is definitely chunkless. Ewwww, though, now my tummy has got the urrry-urps.

Well, maybe my tummy has the urrry-urps cause I just sent off my resume for the first time in about 15 years. Noooooo, it was definitely the chunky V-8. :stuck_out_tongue:

Friday work is having a Memorial Day luau at lunch time. Each department is supposed to bring stuff and PR was picked to bring fruit. I was just talking to one of the other girls about how we should organize that and suggested buying a big watermelon and injecting it with vodka. That’s fruit, right? I think that’d be way more fun than a bunch of grapes and nanners, don’t you?

Tupug

puggy, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to ruin your Spicy V-8. Did you put that Spicy V-8 in my car? I don’t think my mom drinks V-8, so maybe it wasn’t her. The only other person who has been in my car is my brother, so he’s the only other suspect. I’m just glad I found it before it got really nasty!

Vodka watermelon sounds perfect for your little work shindig. We can’t have alcohol here, so it’s just Pepsi and sweet tea. I like sweet tea, but it’s just not the same.

Good luck with the resume thing! I’m starting a big job hunt, so I’m getting the butterflies, too. And I had to pick a career where there just aren’t very many jobs, and I don’t really fit in anywhere, so I’m not sure what I’m doing. That makes it even scarier.

I think he’s got to worry more about my intentions than the other way around!

I did not realize until now how hard it would be to get from the Upstate NY area to Wisconsin. Am I the *only *person who wants to go there? It sounds like such a nice place! Everyone should go there so that flight prices come down so it’ll be cheaper for ME to go there!

I had creamy spinach-basil pesto (homemade!) for dinner last night. YUM! Those of us in the Northeast need something warm and yummy to ward off the effects of all this nasty cold weather. Enough with the rain and cold! ::shakes fist at sky, realizes it’s not doing any good and goes back to work::

My iPod Mini is now up and running - I set it up last night. Tonight I’ll take it with me on my run, which is the reason I bought the thing. Even though it’s only 4G capacity, that’s A LOT OF MUSIC. I loaded on a bunch of stuff that totals like 7 hours of music (I’m not running nearly that far!) and I haven’t even used a half gig.

Last night I made some tasty dijon chicken. Just mixed dijon mustard, honey and dill together, and painted the chicken boobies with it. I love dill, I have now realized. I’m going to have to search for more recipes that use it - YUM.

I’m hoping the boss will let us go early on Friday, to get a jump on the holiday weekend. I think he probably will. Looking at the department calendar, half the group is taking the day off anyway, so it should be pretty quiet.

Well, somehow the high-energy thing apparently got focused on one tooth and during lunch today I bit on a carrot and lost it.

They’re trying to get me in this afternoon, but it might not be fixed till tomorrow morning. It’s actually a crown, and it’s not really lost, thank goodness. I had the presence of mind NOT to SWALLOW once I realized something was wrong and I have it safely put away.

So, I’ve escaped to work from home (amazing how self-conscious it makes you to have your teeth look completely different than you’re used to).

The iPod mini sounds cool, scout. I keep thinking I should get myself one, but I’m not sure I’d use it enough…

Oh…and MagicEyes and Puggy, good luck with the resumes and job-hunting and all!

Holy Og!!! I’m sitting there eating my lunch when my cell rings and it’s the HR guy from where I sent my resume. He’s going to call me this afternoon at 4:30 for a half-hour phone interview. I’ve never done a phone interview. I’m afraid I’m gonna suck some saliva down my windpipe and start hacking and gagging. Either that or I will develop an incomprehensible stammer. :stuck_out_tongue:  I got some pointers from my ex-teammate but I could sure use a valium. But better not since she told me to put energy into my voice. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

   *Go, Tupug! *

You’ll be fine.

I did some interviews late last year and the biggest issues I had with the people who were applying for the job (I was doing the hiring in case that’s not clear) were: 1) They had experience that applied to the job and they didn’t mention it (I knew most of the candidates and had a good idea of what their answers should be), generally because the experience wasn’t from work, and 2) They gave really brief answers that didn’t tell me that they’d really understood the question. Don’t know how your experience relates to the job you’re interviewing for, but don’t be afraid to mention transferrable skills.

Personally, I think phone interviews can be an advantage for you. They won’t be able to see how nervous you are (unless you let them hear it) and if you have any nervous habits (like twirling your hair), they won’t be distracted by them.

Good luck!!!

And let us know how it goes…

Ugh, this has been a rollercoaster-type day. Good news: A brochure on the region that I created a while back was used by one of the regional economic development organizations on their website and they gave our company credit for it. That made me feel really good. Bad news: People that I’ve been trying to call to extract information from are flat-out refusing to talk to me and, in one case anyway, are being jerks about it. I know not to take it personally, but it gets draining after a while. Oh and one of my favorite coworkers is leaving. :frowning:

Hey y’all! I haven’t posted all day. How unusual for me except when I disappear for a week or so. Anyways, I stayed home from work today. I just didn’t want to go. So I decided I was sick. Haven’t done a dang thing all day. ACBG called about 10 this morning all worried like cause he called work and they said I had called in sick. I forgot to tell him. I told him it was more weary than sick. He kinda fussed at me for not letting him know. Ain’t that sweet?

Well, I did do two things today. I vacuumed the pool and reset the sprinkler system. I decided to go to a twice a day three day a week watering for a while cause the grass is looking kinky sickly. I had been watering once a day three days a week. Ok, the sprinkler system was watering but it can’t unless I tell it to so I have to decide when it waters so it’s kinda like I do it.

-swampbear (I also got in the pool for a little while this afternoon. The water was kinda cool but nice)
